So call the White House at 202-456-1111 and tell the powers that be your thoughts on funding AIDS in 2004. If you want, you can post here about how it went.
Don't know quite what to say? Here's a suggested script from folks at National Call-In Day:
I am calling to urge President Bush to support $3 billion in funding for global AIDS prevention and treatment in fiscal year 2004, without taking money from other global health and development programs. I appreciate President Bush's leadership on the Global HIV/AIDS bill, and urge him to do all that he can to assure that it is now fully funded. Lives are at stake. These vital dollars can prevent millions of new infections, and treat and care for millions already living with AIDS. Please support full funding of the Global AIDS bill.

don't be sorry, we are all allowed to talk, just cause we all say stuff doesn't mean we hate eachother. But really, what is complaining? I feel it is calling the President and being an annoyance to him. There are much better ways to get our points across then running around starting riots and flooding peoples phones. I mean honestly, by that sort of action, does anyone here think the President is going to take you serious? I've yet to see a Pesident who takes seriously people being obnoxious to make a point. That's all, and that's my point.
everyone thinks that president bussh is such a great president but what will you think when the economy falls to pieces and the whole aspect of forming a more perfect union crumbles like the aspect of establishing justice is. we are not insuring domestic tranquility, we are simply upsetting it. you can't secure the blessings of liberty if they are not secure within yourself. these were all apart of the preamble but look what it's worth right now

I think if you want to call the President to tell him about the AIDS epidemic, tell your friends first to not have sex and be a safe person when it comes to your health. THis wouldnt be an empidemic if people were safe and SMART!!!!!! Dont make yourself fall for the liberals saying that the President doesnt care. We probably have another attack like September 11. So look into what the president is doing and you will figure out that George Bush is one of the greatest presidents ever.
quote: How much more pessimistic can you get? I know it's sort of unlikely that Bush will listen to all these calls, but attempting to make a change is better than sitting around on your butt all day complaining about bad stuff in the world.
Oh I am sorry when I wasn't starting anti-racist organizations, fixing up homes for the elderly and poor or giving blood to kids with lukemia. I should have took time out of my day to be like a little 5 year old and call up the Whitehouse and scream into the phone. LOOK LOOK AT ME I NEED ATTENTION PAY ATTENTION TO ME I AM NOT SMART ENOUGH TO SOLVE ISSUES WITHOUT MAKING A MOCKERY OF MY WHOLE CAUSE!!!
sorry...not my thing...I'll stick to saving lives.
What's with Liberals and their freakin' obsession with AIDS? Yeah, sure, it's a horrible, awful disease. But there are worse diseases that kill vastly more people every year than AIDS - Cancer, heart diseases, etc. Why not put the $20 billion Bush promised for "AIDS Research" last year into developing a cure for cancer instead?
Like many other illnesses that plague human beings all over the globe, there is a cure for AIDS, Cancer, and other diseases. Research it and you'll find that the U.S. gov't along with a lot of 'personal investors' realized the funding for research clearly outweighes giving up the cure. It falls into the category of experimentation and genocide. On this particular topic, I decline calling asking for funds to help; instead, I'll call and ask Old GW when they're gonna give up the cure. One love.
Bush has already shown that he doesn't care about popular opinion over and over again, so even if i did call the white house, i doubt it would do any good.
Hey NOISEmakers, If cost is a concern, you could email the President (and other legislators) through Connect to Congress! There's a form letter and everything -- and it just takes a coupla minutes to complete. Oh, and for those of you having trouble making the telephone call -- be sure you are dialing the full number: 1-202-456-1111
For future reference, don't ask if you really don't want to know.

Sort of unlikely? Bush has more important things to deal like.. let's say the war and getting our soldiers back here safely. I'm not complaining. If you want to call, go ahead. I'm poor. Long distance from where I am to where DC is happens to be about $.18 a minute + the AT&T fee for making the call, and I'm too cheap to spend 5-10 minutes talking to some machine for my message to get deleted. It's ridiculous.
quote:. You both joined this site wanting to make a difference right? Well stop being pessimistic and at least TRY!!!!
I joined this site so I can see that I make a difference; not to waste my time and money on a useless cause in order to make myself feel as if I made a difference.
I tried to call, but it won't let me! All the phones in town are automatically set to our area code, and I don't know how to change it!! Plus, they don't accept collect calls.
BillyBarrio and geminiangel521~ How much more pessimistic can you get? I know it's sort of unlikely that Bush will listen to all these calls, but attempting to make a change is better than sitting around on your butt all day complaining about bad stuff in the world. It might be a little expensive to call, but it's worth it. You both joined this site wanting to make a difference right? Well stop being pessimistic and at least TRY!!!!
It's really not that expensive to call. I asked my mom yesterday if it was okay to call and she was totally cool with it. I don't know about you guys but I think it was like 7 cents a minute or something like that. Besides I think most people will use their cell or their parents cell phone free long ditance minutes.
what makes any of you think by being obnoxious and annoying that anyone is going to listen to you??? It didn't work to stop the war in Iraq, and it won't work now. It's time people started growing up and acting responsible. Do you know why so many things are done in our government that we don't like? Because those people learned how the system works and how to make a point, when will the rest of us?
I'm not going to call. Not because I think AIDS should go unsupported, but because of these reasons:
1) Who the hell has the money to pay for long distance? We don't all live in Washington D.C.
2) Who is going to supply this money? American taxpayers? Of the Africans who are most likely going to receive all of the money? Or is the money going to come from the long distance charges that people expend?
3) What sane individual actually thinks Bush is going to personally listen to you.. let alone answer his phone? Not to be pessimistic, but the call will probably be disregarded. If you're lucky, some intern will hear it, and then delete it.
4) There are problems right now that I think are more important than finding a cure for AIDS, such as helping our homeless people, finding a cure for cancer, etc. But that's just my opinion.
