Yes it's true, Massachusettes has become the first state to make Gay marriages legal. It isn't a law yet, but they figured out that not letting them do it is against the Massachusettes constitution. So now the Legislative will have to either make a new law or change the Massachusettes Constitution. Changing the constitution could take years. They have 180 days to make a new law. This is a big step for gay people and it probably will become national.

Conservative : "Marriage itself is Christian and religious"
Really now? Now how would you explain the huge number of married Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Wiccans, etc..? and married atheists? They're not Christian and atheists aren't religious so I guess that means they don't have rights to be married?

In case that sounds confusing, Im for the Civil Unions like they have in Vermont, but not full throttle marriage.

Marriage itself is Christian and religious. But today its more political than it is religious. I was only saying we should move with times but slowly, and we should respect the Christian religion. The MA Supreme Court is supposed to defend rights, not make them.

How can you support the "political rights" derived from being married, but think that government should not infringe on marriage? Serious flaw there...
My, my, the tragedy of log cabin republicans.

as a life long massachusets resident, i have one thing to say: what the HELL took so long!? and in response to all this praise of MA, i respond as follows: yes we are smart.

As a gay teenager, I am totally against gay marriage. You probably think that's crazy, but I really do think its bad and especially at such a bad time. Marriage is simply defined between a man and woman. If you are going to allow gay marriages, why have marriage at all? Marriage is a religious thing between man and woman. Now, I am for the political rights when you do get married. Such as insurance rights, etc. I don't see any harm in that. If we allow gay marriages, what about same family marriages as well? This country is not yet ready to deal with homosexuality. Just like the country was not yet ready to deal with black people until a 100 years after the Civil War. I believe marriage is a religious symbol, and I do not think that the government should infringe on it.

I don't think that it was... I think you just can't get a law suit filed against you now (or something like that).

How could you NOT legalize gay marriages? They have rights too.

quote: It's unlikely this change in policy will have any national relevance.
Actually, Bush has already started to complain. I'm actually hoping there will be people against it who argue and make a big deal about it. Something like this could really make them change the laws that forbid it and make it illeagal NOT to recognize Gay marriages. I mean, It's comepletely unconstitutional not to!
