why does america try to stop countries especially third world from having its own nuclear weapons ? with all due respect if america was actually the first to use something as deadly as the atom bomb for the first time on planet earth then why can't other countries be responsible enough to use them ???
should it really impose sanctions on those countries which are plagued by terrorism and building up their defence just to instill fear in the perpetrating countries ???

Volleychick!

NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!
PLEASE STOP RAPING MY LANGUAGE! OH JESUS! BUT DOWN THE ENGLISH AND STOP INSERTING SHARP METALLIC OBJECTS INTO ITS ORIFICES! SWEET CHRIST ON A WATER CRACKER, I CANT STAND IT ANYMORE!

After that...who pulls 95% out of the middle of the nowhere? Go with the good ol' respectable 99.99% if you're guessing.

No, I don't think the U.S. ever went to the extent of saying Iraq actually had nuclear weapons, though I wouldn't put it past the administration.

The "terrorists" who you have an amazingly vague grasp of do not generally traffic in nuclear arms, as far as we know, that is more the field of established authoritarian countries like North Korea.

No wait, none of this is good enough.

Volleychick, I want a written apology in which you state that you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, or how to talk about it using the English language. You owe more, but I'll take that.

volleychick, Iraq has nothing to do with the topic. The US never claimed that they did. I think the subject is more North Korea. Also, I think nuclear weapons should be banned from the world, not just 3rd world counties. US included!

umm- no! Iraq has everything to do with it-- the whole Middle East does! Thats where terrorists are!!! Terrorists that livein other countries are from the middle East 95% of the time! But the only thing i agree with you is that nuclear weapons should be banned...

ok i'm tired today so i'm sorry this will be a little vague... first, yes it is the responsibility thing.. it is like if you had a choice of giving a gun to a policeman or a pyscho killer.. who would you give it too?.. my guess is not the killer.. same thing here.. also there was a treaty signed by numerous countries(i can't think of the nameof it right now) that regulated who could develop and have nuclear weapons.. so it is not just the U.S. saying they can't have them...

and there was never any nuclear weapons in IRAQ.. weapons of mass destruction.. yes... they said they were working on trying to build nuclear weapons...

I exaggerated on the billions. Didn't they say they found nuclear weapons in Iraq? My brother even said they found some... heh. I'm out of touch, damn.

They have yet to find any nuclear weapons in Iraq, let alone 'billons'.

I think the outcome of the war could make it worthwhile, but it's pretty clear that the government was lying/ exaggerating about the nuclear threat. The fact is we went to war on false information. Whether that's important or not depends on your viewpoint I guess.

Well, duh! Because other countries can not be trusted. They will try to blow up other countries. Like Iraq, they had billions of them. They were going to use them, maybe on the U.S. or other surrounding countries. I'm not saying the U.S can be trusted, were just afraid that some county is going to blow us up. We are a very hated country.

It all depends on how the country decides to handle them. The US is currently not holding the world hostage. North Korea is, and cannot be trusted. Theycan not have any nukes, because they already promised to get rid of them. But, you can't negotiate with terrorists (jot that one down, Mr. Clinton), and we must stop them.

i guess responsibility is a big issue where nuclear weapons are concerned but think of it this way.. it also sorta instills fear in the perpetrating countries + we know what the consequences of annihilating each other...
presently nuclear weapons are more for a show of power like it was in those days the scepter of the king .....its like making a power statement to issue a warning ....
ps-betherex- thanks for asking about !!!!!!!...looking back i should have used ???????(question marks

Yeah...there are some countries that just should not have nukes right now.

The U.S.? Sweden? France? Britain? Canada? Yeah, they should be okay with nukes.

Wartorn coutries in Africa dominated by military regimes that get overthrown every 6 months?
NO.

Don't get me wrong though, the U.S. is a hypocrite.

Sudha, you raise a good point.

But it's true. The instability of some governments makes it dangerous for them to have possession of nuclear weapons.

In a sense it's like a country can only have nuclear weapons if it can be trusted not to use them.

Hypocrisy, I know… *shrug*

I don't think more nuclear weapons would better the world. We probably have enough to blow ourselves up several times over already. While it may be hypocritiical of America to possess nuclear weapons and yet restrict other countries from making them, it is wise. If we had unstable, warring thrid-world governments in possession of atom bombs, well we'd be looking at a nuclear holocaust waiting to happen…

Bex

P.S. Sudha!!!!!!! Why all the exclamation marks!!!!!???

Iraq was not harbouring terrorists. If you want terrorists, look to the south (Saudi Arabia you git). Hussein is gone, and should have been gone back during the first Golf War. Also, the Bush administration shifted its focus when it first took office from terrorist to missile defense systems. I have more, but this isn't the topic.

Nuclear, chemical and biological weapons are mainly used as deterants. They are used as a device to prevent other countries from invading. Most third world governments are unstable and corrupt. I'll finish when I get back from class.

umm, well Iraq has been knwn for harboring terrorists like Osama Bin Laden, who, by the way, was the mastermind behind September 11(which killed thousands of people)! Not all Iraquis ar terrorists, but we need to stop the terrorism, and mass destruction Sadamm Hussein has been inflicting on his people.
