I'm puzzled about the topic of slavery reparations (claims by some African Americans that they should get paid for their ancestor's history of slavery).

How could I be liable/responsible for something that happened over 150 years ago? How could you determine who would be eligible for a cash giveaway?

Is this just another free money scheme dreamed up by the race hucksters (Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson, et al)??

Wasup widdat? Confused

It's a dumb idea.

Let's give money to all the Irish-Americans for the well-paying jobs they could have had if we had let them. Let's give money to all Polish-Americans for the money we cheated them out of with our lower wages for them because they didn't know how much money miners usually got in the US. Let's give money to all the women who were so brutally forced to take lower wages. Let's give money to the American-Indians who were not given the right to vote until AFTER blacks and women, and who were run off their land, time and time again. The list is endless.

As you can see, we'd clearly be a broke country...even more so than we are now.

We keep complaining about the National Debt, but look how much money people want the gov to spend!

And secondly, really why are we (the whites) supposed to pay for the evils that were placed upon others by ancestors, and why should they (the blacks) receive money that should have belonged to their ancestors. Seriously, this is like saying, "Since the Romans enslaved the Jews around 1 AD, we shall now give all the Jews money for that." Come on!

And you also realize that if this comes from the government, the Blacks pay taxes just like everybody else. Thus, think about it. The blacks would be paying reparations for other blacks. You're just redistributing the money.

Sounds like a set-up for socialism to me.

If they get paid for that, then the American Indians should get paid also.

Sorry, but I've seen idiots of all races. (Warning: what I am about to say is racist, and I don't give a living shit if you care). The most idiotic people I have found are Dominicans, and my generation of Puerto Ricans, unfortunately.

On the slavery reparations, it is entirely ridiculous.

Isn't it interesting that "slavery reparations" is only differentiated by "slavery preparations" by one letter? Hmmm...

Oh, and btw, this isn't really a serious topic, there are a few crazies in any group but in general, the black community thinks an idea like that is ridiculous. So posts like "Why should I be responsible! Arg, stupid black people!!!" are just damn ignunt.

There's never been a proven correlation between IQ and race. The people who started that godforsaken rumor were more than likely white supremacists. (This didn't stop black supremacists of course, from using this as an example of the inequality in education for blacks.)

As for slavery reparations, that really insults the black community, and they don't even know it. Giving them money to heal ancestral wounds. Because apparently, black people are so poor and so desperate for money, that giving them a few thousand dollars will honor their family.

Any amount of money doesn't erase the fact that the ancestors worked their lives in oppressment, and to think so is superficial and reflects badly back onto their race. How about using that money to better poor black communities? Make something productive and beneficial out of something so horrible.

Why should I have to pay for something that someone else did about 150 years ago? I am not responsible for anyone's actions other then mine.

Have a great day.

Wow, well this thread is two years old and confettikiss hasn't been around for a while so don't expect an answer.

But since you're a new poster, and a mature educated on at that, I think you deserve a bit more respect than the average 13 year old moronic newbie.

I don't speak for confetti and I don't know where she got her info, but I'd assume that if there WAS a racial pattern in IQ tests it was a product of the academic patters also. IQ tests can be and are affected by education. I've heard the racial IQ trend brought up in other discussions but can'e provide a source. Given the differences in test scores and GPA's along racial lines, an IQ dichotomy is logical. Whether the source of this is racial (unlikely), cultural (possible), or edcuational (most likely), I really don't know.

And another thing, research has shown that Asians and Whites have the highest I.Q.s of any race. I'm not being racist. This stuff is true!

Wow, thank you for repeating the SAME ARGUMENT THAT HAS BEEN SAID OVER AND OVER AGAIN FOR TWO ENTIRE PAGES. Really, explain why you felt it neccesary to post that. What could possibly have been going through your head?

Why should we pay for reparations when we had nothing to do it? It would make a little more sense if the reparations were paid by the descendants of the slaveowners but even that isn't fair because you can't help being born into a former slave-holding family.

Hmmm...why dwell on the past? Perhaps because it determines the present and the future?

I don't support reperations, I don't think that's the way to go about things, it's both impractical and badly though-out, but you're just spewing **** all over the place.

Anyway, taxes are a lame argument, there are plenty of tax-wastes much larger than reperations would be. But it would probably be as silly and pointless as Bush tax cuts, just to a smaller amount of people.

Does anyone happen to know of John Kerry and George Bush's views on this issue?

Something tells me that our liberal government WILL end up giving reparations - if not fully, then partially.

I don't expect to have to pay a penny to people whose ancestors were slaves. It would be completely illogical. And not only for people who had slaves in their families'. I'm part Native American. But I'm not demanding my family's land back. I'm not demanding you pay me because your ancestors brought diseases from Europe that killed my ancestors? Why? Because it's illogical.

Reparations for slavery? That's ludicrous.

I'm not giving anyone my money; I don't care whether their ancestors were indentured servants, slaves, or traitors. They can all go to hell. I will make and keep my own money (and the IRS will get its fair share, of course).

Because this was something that happened too long ago. The money for reparations would come out of this generation's taxpayers' pockets - people who had nothing to do with the slave trade/holding. It's not fair to these people. Things are better now so deal with it.
