For any athiests in here, I'd like to hear your reasons/logic as to why you believe what you believe. And on the flip side, If you believe in a God explain your reasons.

Religion is not just a deal about proof...its about faith. I mean yea, there may not be a heaven or hell (which is why I like Judaism...no promises about the end), but all you can do is to just have trust. I mean, God has never answered my prayers directly, but I'm sure he works in ways that I can't understand, and I probably don't even know its his work in the first place. Its all about faith, not proof.

I know a lot of people don't believe in God. My best friend doesn't believe in God, so I know all about it. But to me, even though I don't have proof, I still believe there is a God. I don't know how to prove it, except with the Bible, because science tries at every opportunity to disprove that there is a God.And also, since some people believe that God is hateful, he is that, but he is also a loving and kind God. I'm not one of those people who thinks God is all love and goodness, but he's also the person who I trust the most. Sorry if I drone on and on, but this is how I feel.

There is nothing that makes me believe there is a God.

It doesn't, but as long as the thread is still here I figure there's nothing wrong with adding my opinion.

im atheist. i think that jesus christ was a great man, yes, MAN. i dont see why he must be holy, what he said and taught would have no less meaning and worth if they came from a man rather than the son of god. and it bothers me that people cant follow what he said unless hes almighty. why should my ideas be worth any less than his? anyways, religion has been far too manipulated and distorted for me to consider attempting (or wanting) to understand it.

Real quickly, I've only glanced over this topic, so if what I said has been said before, I apologize for a redundant post.

It would be foolish, I think, to rule out the existence of a supernatural deity as I think has already been established by other posters. There is no logical proof, either philosophical or scientific, to deny such a beings existence.
However, if such a being does indeed exist, I think it unlikely that he or she (or it?) is even remotely similar to any deity thus far proposed by humans.

As we know, volcanic action beneath the Earth is what causes a volcano to erupt; not the forge of Hephaestus. Numerous battles depicted in the Bible have no other historical record to prove their existence. The multiplicity of miracles alleged in the Bible have no basis for which one can conclude that they are anything more than legend.

With that said, I would state that I am truly atheistic in the sense that I do not believe in certain Gods on the grounds that I feel their justification for existence is dubious. As for ruling out a supernatural power or being, I would not go so far.

I don't know what I would be labeled as. There is no faith out there that I'm willing to die for. I guess...I believe in what I know to be true.
I don't think there is a god. No, science does not explain everything. But then, neither does the bible. There are sophisticated people from both sides that are willing to swear that a ten minute debate with them will convince me otherwise. Everything is possible.

But for now, my logic is good enough for me.

I like what David Hume said best:
“Whatever we can conceive to exist we can conceive to non-exist.”

It’s very simple really: I can conceive that a god is real, then he’s real. I can’t, he’s not.

True scientific proof only comes when every possible attempt to falsify a theory fails. Religions cannot claim truth until they prove they aren't false. Faith is an empty word, it describes the state of mind whereby someone is unable to give up their beliefs or even question them in a stubborn manner.

I am an Atheist.

The reason why I am atheist is pretty simple:

Which God?

Thor? Loki? Osiris? Ra? Apollo? Jupiter? Yaweh?

Do we believe Jesus is the messiah?
Do we believe Jesus is a prophet?
Do we believe Mohammad is a prophet?
Do we believe Mohammad is a false prophet?
Do we believe Jesus is the anti-Christ?

There are so many choices with specific details. And there is one, big, big option that says, "There is none".

There is no god. It makes us feel good, and may however be beneficial to us, to think that there is a god, and to believe in one, to bring our family closer together, to give us hope, but when you take a step back, you must use your mind, use your god-given (pun intended) logic to conclude that all there is in this universe is matter and events, light, energy, chain reactions, people, animals, it's beautiful, and for the world to be beautiful there doesn't have to be this god, it can be beautiful, just because, well, we were made genetically to perceive it as beautiful. I'm sure a turtle or an amoeba doesn't think that a sunset's beautiful.

Religious people credit all their human attributes to god, when in reality human attributes, beauty, the world, the universe, are all just things that occurred out of natural selection, survival of the fittest, chain reactions, chemistry, atoms, basic things.

Religion has become hurtful. Terrorists are killing people. They fight and recruit like teams that hate each other simply because they have fought each other for thousands of years, over primitive ideas like theism. Religion is a disgrace to the human race. If one day aliens come down to Earth and see all of our fighting, they're going to want to know what it's all about, and when they learn that it's over something as whacked out as religion, they're going to be utterly perplexed at how such an intelligent race can use such a lack of common sense.

Thanks for your time reading this, I hope it enlightens you
