Ehh. I agree to a point. Some are inspiring. Others are lazy and resentful that they don't make more money.

Quite simply. By eliminating gym classes, students get less excersice (I really can't spell that word).

I agree except with the teachers, that they do what they do for so little means they are the best that can do the job. The thing about higher standards is that when those are insituted things like recess and PE are cut out in favor of more class time thus making the US fatter

And if I knew the answer, I'd be a millionaire. There have to be higher expectations and better instruction. The government has these high expectations without increasing the quality of instruction. That's just not going to work. There needs to be an increase in teacher salaries...to attract better people to the profession.

I think it's an interesting idea, Amp. But the middle class would be hurt. Obviously, the government would pay for the lower class, and the upper class would be fine, but the middle class would be screwed over...just like it is now when it comes to paying for college. Who would force a family to pay? Some parents aren't willing to pay for college...why would high school be any different? If it's mandatory, then it would just be like paying higher taxes since I'm assuming these private schools would be quite expensive, since people without children in attendance would not have to pay...that's a huge loss in tax revenue (right word?) right there. Who would control the curriculum? Who would decide to which school a child goes? If the government is paying money for a student to attend a Catholic school, then the government is endorsing religion. That's unconsitutional. I think that public schools are the best option...I just think they need to be run in a different way.

Public funding wont be spend on private schools. As I just said, PRIVATE SCHOOLS, NOT PUBLIC. Oh and sorry, didn't see you said the same thing. I skim the posts, dont study them...

Risk, realize that college/uni in the US isn't as exclusive as it is in Europe. A good 40% of our population goes to some type of college. And I've heard firsthand many university level or higher students from Britian utter similarly ignorant things. The same goes for many international students I deal with here in the US.

right but youth of your age are expected to be able to read! we have established that the public school system does not work as well as it could if it was privately owned and operated. We have also noted that some people couldn't afford to pay tution to said private schools. So since the goverment no longer has to pay for public schooling it uses that funding to help those who cannot pay the tuition to private schools pay to be able to go. do you understand now? or do I need to say it another time with smaller words?

Last time I checked, the government doesn't aid or fund private schools! Thats why their called private, not public. I will just ignore that insult: This is for YOUTH, not immature adults...

you have awful reading comprehension kiddo. the goverment. Since they don't have to pay for the schools themselves any more they can use that cash to help out with tuition. Does that explain it or do I need to get some graphs and hand puppets in here?
