I'm sure no one's going to like what I'm about to post. But as an advocate of democracy, I must post anyway.Does anyone know what the worst terrorist attack to occur on September 11th was? Look it up; 1973 was far more tragic than 2001. The 3,000 deaths that came with the bombing of the World Trade Center did not end any nation's democracy. The hundreds of thousands of deaths before, during, and after the bombing of the Chilean Presidential Palace did. I planned on keeping an American flag nearby and dressing in "patriotic" colors tomorrow because of what the terrorists did. Now I find that I cannot do that, because of what the terrorists did. Different terrorists, different countries, same goal: end freedom. Ridiculous. Osama bin Laden orders terrorism and he is hunted down the rest of his life. That's the way it should be. But Henry Kissinger orders terrorism and gets a Nobel Peace Prize?! Christ. Salvador Allende was elected by the people of South America's first true democracy. He was murdered because of Kissinger's fascism. General Augusto Pinochet was put in Allende's place. The date? 11 September, 1973.

Nationalism increases our chances of being attacked. Most everyone else holds the same attitude about their own country, so what happens when the US attacks another country for nationalizing US-owned copper mines? Attacks on the USA.

Yep, that's exactly how I feel. I'm sorry if I put an impression on you that I don't care about all those people killed, I do care, but right now, we were attacked on our own soil and right now I'm concerned about my country then somebody elses.

I agree it’s messed up, but common you’re quantifying events now. Personally I find the severity irrelevant, in this case, because the attacks in 2001 where on my home countries soil, hurting my fellow citizens , so therefore I’m going to have a little more concern for my own country rather then another country.

I was referring to earlier comments. I am perfectly happy with your response.

I'm totally on your side. It does affect us. What I meant to say is it doesn't "directly" affect us. As in, not many if any Americans died. But it does affect us because it's very saddening and it is an attack on our world freedom.

It's only going to make me a greedy egotistical ***** like Henry Kissinger.
As far as mourning foreigners is concerned, I love the posters one of my friends made for today. He made them "In memory of Salvador Allende and all others killed on September 11th." That honors the victims in both countries. I have Chilean friends and may be going there over my Christmas break (If I can afford it). So don't tell me their loss doesn't affect us.

One of the reasons that we were attacked is because we care too much about ourselves and here on the 2nd anniversary of the attacks we still don't care that other people have died for freedom around the world. Just because it doesn't affect us doesn't mean it's unimportant. The Chileans, like the 3,000 people who died on 9/11, died for their freedom, and we should at least remember them with somber thoughts.

Oh, yeah, it probably affected American democracy, but did that terrorist attack kill thousands of innocent American lives. It probably did affect us but, as I said, it didn't hit as close to our hearts as the WTC attacks did.

Or, to get the real story, read this. You do have to scroll down a bit for the story.

I just thought it was a little more informative than what Socrates said.

Every time the CIA is allowed to end democracy in another country, that is a threat to American democracy.

Screw you! Hehe. Joking. Well, I don't really care what happened in Chili, it didn't hit as close to our hearts as the WTC attacks did. So it's big for us.
