Within a few weeks of France rejecting the E.U. constitution and throwing the organization under the proverbial bus, President Chirac has the nerve to call out the U.K. by requesting that Great Britain give their E.U. rebate of three billion Pounds back as a sign of Anglo-E.U. solidarity.

I have no problem with the fact that France is only out to help France, but it infuriates me that they go around telling the U.S. and U.K. that we need to be more devoted to internationalism while they do it.

How would you din them?

Oh, and you're welcome. (phantom) Thanks for being so nice and calm about it. Smile

Speaking of welcome, they are by nature a colder people than we. They take their time to get to know you before trusting or liking you. They teach their children to be strong rather than kind and clever rather than plainly smart. This is not the way we, as Americans, choose to educate ourselves, but it does not make it wrong. They are, in fact, some of the most intelligent and intriguing(sp?) of all peoples and deserve our respect.

I have never found french people to be anything of the sort...

Not that I disagree with you, but France isn't a fifth the size of Texas, it is roughyly the size of Texas. I know...I've been there.

Um...so have I. Lived there, and visited Texas. Look at a map. It is about a fifth of the size. Just, though you oughta know.

You are obviously Conservative. Take no offense, but I feel it my duuty to inform you that the French have an extremely different view on things than we do, and even more so than Republicans. Their government is a little....interesting, to be polite, but please do not expect them to welcome a Republican with open arms.

Ok, I hope that you've at least had the brains to realize that American themselves are different. We are just so big a country to have one culture. People from New York are different than those from California. And those from Louisiana are different from those from Montana. So maybe most American arrogance is mainly centralized in a specific region. At least try not to criticize all Americans.

BTW, how many foreign countries have you visited? I've visited almost all countries in western Europe, from Portugal to Croatia. I'm sorry but the people of those countries were much more friendly, France is the only country I had a problem with and that was before they didn't go to war with us.

-----"""You know, I think I could almost say the same for your "HOORAY FRANCE = BOO USA."""---

Um, no, you couldn't. Associating patriotism with unreasonable/stupid dislike for another country is retarded. I don't do that, and, being an American, I'm pretty well justified in criticizing my own country, on the basis I live here and understand it much better than a foreigner ever could, and that things that happen here directly affect me. I like French culture for a few reasons, but none of them are because I don't like something specific to the U.S. anyway. Est-ce vous parlez français? Si non, j'ai tous les évidences nécessaires savoir que vous ne savez pas beaucoup des mots que partent de ta bouche.

-----"""While yes, America is kind of materialistic and everything, French people are just arrogant and stuck up."""---

Did I argue that? Did I say I hated the US? No and no. And the second is a stupid stereotype, that doesn't even have a basis in truth so much as it does in inability to look beyond one's own culture/ignorance.

I'm glad to see some people know their history...

Man, I'll never understand why some people hate the French so much. Oh yeah. Ignorance and stupidity. I'm still laughing at the immaturity of the "HOORAY USA = BOO FRANCE" logic that enfolded too many gullible Americans. Morons. There's lotsa cool stuff about them French.

I have no clue where the heck the board is at, but I just spent 3 days with a French family, and they are, in fact pretty darn nice, and smart. They were alot nicer then some American families I've met before...

I know someone who's 21-year-old brother was having a party, and his brother invited him in, and told him which was alcohol and which was sparkling cider...problem, his brother messed up. The poor boy (12 years old) went to the bathroom puking his insides out.

Once, at a party my family hosted at our house, my mother had...I can't even remember the name now, it was a little while ago, but I think it might have been a Russian something or other, but I thought it was water. So, I take a huge swigg of it...end up running for the kitchen sink moments later, my poor throat in pain.

Turned out there was plenty of Vodkah in the drink, explaining why it looked like water, and I've never been able to stand the stuff since.

Otherwise, I'm OK with alcohol. Well, actually, really only wines, rosees, and champagnes. I still hate beer.

Say, while we're on the topic, how long has everyone here been drinking since?

My mom gave me whiskey at 3 so I wouldn't like it, if that counts. And I didn't.

I tasted beer at ten and hated it.

Wine I've drunk pretty much all my life since I was 6 or 7. But I don't drink much anymore, no reason really, I just don't.

There's no alcohol in our sacrament in my church. I'm a Mormon. We don't drink alcohol. Razz

I've never had a drink. Neither has my mom. My dad had beer before he became a Mormon though. His father force-fed it to him. My dad says that it's so disgusting, he wouldn't drink it again if you paid him.
