Napoleon was a Corsican, and Joan of Arc didn't cause a "victory." Though I think she was a VERY great woman, all she did was avoid France from being conquered 900 years ago.

For goodness sakes! In the Franco-Prussian War, in one year, France lost almost 140,000 stinking people! Not to mention wounded. They lost 1 billion dollars in the the Treaty of Berlin and all of Alscae and most of Lorraine in the Treaty as well.

What about the thirty years War? Franco-Prussian War? Dutch War?

Actually, I can't think of one time that all of Europe was against France. More like most of Europe has to keep on coming in and saving their derrieres.

You do realize that in almost all of the wars fought by france between 1600 and 1871, it took all the powers of Europe just to beat them back to thier own borders.

What I'm saying is why can't they manage to succeed?

What is France's problemo?

http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/text/france.html -a hilarious place.

Example:

- Hundred Years War
Mostly lost, saved at last by female schizophrenic who inadvertently creates The First Rule of French Warfare; "France's armies are victorious only when not led by a Frenchman." Sainted.

Well, for only one and a half years of formal French schooling, I did pretty well. The rest of it has been on my own. I obviously didn't get the swearing part, because I've never been taught to swear in French. Big Grin

By the way, you're proud of being an anarchist? I'm not qualified to discuss French cuisine because I'm a little French aristocrat? Do you know what you're talking about even?

You're just showing off.

If you could actually speak French, I was telling Maxno that him/her speaking French was not intimidating me.

The French think they rule Europe and they can have their way in anything. There are more imporrtant countries in Europe as well as France (the UK, Germany and Ireland for example)

This from someone who includes an anime character among his heroes. I think I'll find someone else with which to discuss fine food and vin. And Bakunin isn't to be beleived you crazy anarchist freak. Considering he died during the third republic I don't think he really had much of an opinion on De Gaul.

I may have an anime charachter amongst my heroes, but you knew who he was. Also I have two anime cahrachters, except one is a dog.

You have Kennith Galbraith among your heroes, which is surprising seeing as he isn't a tool like yourself. Have you read the Economics of Innocent Fraud?

I agree. French castles are the way to go. Or German castles. There are some pretty sweet German castles.

Are you kidding me? Scottish and Irish castles are the best.

I'm actually partial to Israeli-style cheeses. (They're not made in Israel much anymore, but they originated there). Wine is against my religion, so I can't make a comment there.

I love the French language though, and it's hard to beat Dumas, Hugo and Baudelaire.

yet everyone mocks American culture...because it is purly corporate and consumerist.

America has no culture. Its "culture" is a fuse (sp?) of its many ethnic groups. It's only culture is McD's and everything corporate. Nothing nearly as great as, say, Asian, European, or African cultures.
