Relatively recently a Canadian Journalist was in the United States asking Americans what they thought of the Canadian government's intention to continue the Saskatchewan Seal hunt. The government, according to this journalist, was doing this in the name of population control. I just want to know what people think of this.

How many Canadians have you met? I only know of one person that actually admits to likeing the States more than Canada and she is a bit of an idiot. Most people I know have a need/hate relationship with the states.

Ah, a common misconseption. A lot of Americans think of Canada as "America Jr." when we are really two very diiferent countries. I have also met Americans who like Canada better. It all depends on where you're coming from I guess...

All the Canadians I've met in person liked the US better, so I have to assume that Canada really is like a worse version of America.

Are you always such a jerk or are you mad at the world again?
We at least expect you to feel like an idiot, for talking about things you know nothing about.

No, why would we be angry? No one cares about Canada. Would YOU care about the geography of your attic?

I can't spell. I liked the 70% of grade seven students can't name their home state. Then this woman is freaking out and her kid says wait a minute, Canada has provinces. The profs were really funny.

I thought it was spelled "Poutine". But whatever. It was a good joke, while it lasted. I love This Hour Has 20 Minutes...in fact I'm watching it right now. "Talking to Americans" a special they have. Its the best when they talk about leagilising staplers.

OK, I give up. I set out to prove that people dont' know what they are talking about and Americans are ignorant about Canada.

I SUCCEEDED.

Okay, time to go to school. Lesson geography. You know that pretty book full of colorful pictures called maps. Take a look at a map of Canada or even North America. Find the big province on the midwest side labelled Saskatchewan. Does anyone see any ocean where seals would live. No. I have been trying to get someone to call me out. No one knew aside from Canucks who laughed hystarically. I even mentioned Saskatchewan spefically and no one looked. I talked about the maritimes. Saskatchewan is a prarie province.

This was fun and entertaining but eventually I had enough. I talked about the 30 hour clock and people believed me.

And for the record in my original post I didn't lie. A comedian named Rick Mercer had people signing a petition on these topics a couple of years ago. He also got George W. Bush to say he appreciated Prime Minister Jean Putine's support. (A putine is a meal of fries with gravy and cheese.)

Now I look forward to your feedback about my joke.

No one is willing to research this topic. Interesting. Kind of gives a lot of insite into how people will spout off on stuff that they really know nothing about.

Fishing restrictions are already hurting the economy in the short term (though in the long term, the extinction of fish used for food would hurt it a lot more). If they'd been tried earlier, maybe we wouldn't be in this mess now. But we are, so it looks like killing their predators may be necessary.

They have fishing restriction which is why half of Atlantic Canada is on EI. The french have two little islands off of Canada that they have fishing rights for and are severely overfishing from.

Maybe instead of killing the seals they should impose some fishing restrictions. Not enough to harm the economy, just enough so that the fish population can catch up a bit.

The Inuit (I must have spelled it wrong...) do eat seal but its more of a tradion than dependance on them for food.

I've been sitting at my computer bored for several hours, posting here because i have nothing else to do, and in 47 minutes no one has bothered to answer my question about the use of seal corpses. I feel unloved.
