How is England socialist? I would say we're more capitalist… We elect our own government, we have freedom of speech, in some ways we're more lenient than America (no death penalty). In what ways, specifically, are we not as free? Bex

America isn't spoiled, neither are Americans. I think we have what we like and maybe what we don't even need, but that's all part of being a free country, like the United States. All the dumb little 'gadgets' we have make it possible to conquer the impossible. Americans are materialistic, that may make us seemspoiled, but that's just how it is.

The Western democracies, as far as I know, share the same analogous liberties that we Americans do.

What "things"? You tell me what things you dont think can be done in other countries and i will show you where they can.

Thanx I agree with you too...but i was talking more of a tax as in tax in the mind. What i meant about paying was America fought a war for freedom...well...a few wars and revalutions too. Thats what i meant about payment...and the tax is now that we are free we have nothing to strive for so people keep looking for something more in their life...like reigion...perhaps that's how so many riligons were born from being bored and trying to find what they call enlightenment. I can't say i believe that...but i believe in only one true God and Jesus is his son. (Christan) i kno you think i am not one or a true one in your eyes but i try to be. I can not help what i have been raised to see what was right and what was wrong. I think America is a Great country and i am a true blue Patriot...that's why i ttalk about my countries faults...to help it...to make it understnad it can be better. It's what my teachers call constructive Criticism. Well i am kinda off topic so just tell me what you think. Thanx

This country was not created as a democracy; it was created as a republic, a country in which the rule of Law is supreme to what political pundits THINK is alright to say/do.
England is not a free country; that country is almost completely socialist, so to say you're a free person in England would be a lie. The entire European Union is socialist - the free trade agreements that the EU and the US enter are quasi-capitalistic ones, but it's not all capitalist.
America IS the freest country in the world; you cannot do the things you do in any other place, and I would like to find out what other country would permit the things we do....

Cool down, Joey. America's great an' all but it isn't the only democracy in the world! You make it sound like the rest of the entire Earth is populated by slaves. Jeez, I'm no patriot but I don't think Britain is some kind of communist/dictatorship hell-hole… America is not the be-all and end-all of freedom on the planet. On the subject of being spoiled… I wouldn't say spoiled. Fortunate, most definitely. Arrogant, yep. Spoiled, no, America worked its way into its wealth and power and saying its a spoiled country implies it was just handed to you all on a plate. Bex

Joey, there are other freedoms than economic ones. There are political, civil, and social freedoms. And in fact, most of those "human-oppressing socialist" nations which you so revile actually respect those freedoms more than America does. At most you could make a case that "human-opressing socialists" hate economic freedom, but keep in mind the fact that those are not the sole freedoms.

quote: what do you mean when you say, "abuse."
I was just quoting someone. quote: What freedoms are people abusing? What solutions to this "selfishness" do you have to offer? What more do we "need?"
I dont think there needs to be a solution. You are the one that assumes its such a bad thing when the country is called selfish. Its not like I am referring to everyone in America besides myself. I am just as selfish, and I like the things and freedoms i have.

Actually, Americus, you're absolutely right. Americans are totally hit over the head with taxes. On everything. Everywhere. Tax, tax, tax.
So I don't think Americans' problem(s) lie with being "spoiled" and "abusing freedoms."
They lie with the constant coercion our government has placed upon us.
Pizzaz/Jookly, what do you mean when you say, "abuse."
What freedoms are people abusing? What solutions to this "selfishness" do you have to offer? What more do we "need?"
Jookly, when people start bashing my country (not the government, the country) as being propserous, free, and independent, then I will get defensive.

America is spoiled and that's why most people are unhappy in America. They are always looking for something else...notice? I really believe it falls to the future generations to learn not to abuse freedom so much. Don't forget everything has it's price and we paid but it does not mean there isn't a tax. To me a the tax is the amount of unhappiness in people's lives. I think if we work together the tax can be overcomed. I kno you probley all think i am nuts so i will leave it at that. lol well think about it..and tell me the truth am i crazy?

spoiled? nah maybe we're just lucky....and i think we do try to share, or at least to change the stinky governments out there(isn't that sharing?)...but then doesn't everyone get mad at us for getting involved in things that aren't our business? ~Molly

joey.
I understand that we have many more freedoms and money than any other country. I am very proud of the country that i live in and i DO agree that it IS the best country in the world and i wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
However, just because we are the best does NOT mean we are perfect.
That is why people say things like we are spoiled......because we are. This doesn't mean we are ungrateful and it doesn't mean that we are complaining that we live here, and it doesn't mean that we are wishing we lived in some other country.
We are just saying that even though we are the best country in the world right now, we can get better. We have much room for improvements. We have plenty of problems.
and yes, being spoiled is not very high on the to-do list of issues to be resolved but it's still worth discussing.

quote: We are all a very selfish nation and our drive for money increases this infinitly. We are without a doubt the most spoiled and concieded nation in the entire world.
Then take your anti-selfish little self and move to a less-free country, then. Then, and only then, will you come back and wish you had never left. It just infuriates me that you people see our country as some HUGE evil, when in any other place in this world -- EVERY I should say -- is completely under a despotic government, hell-bent on FORCING you to do things. By God, people, you should be thanking the ground you walk on for being able to even LOOK at America, let alone live here. Spoiled? Rich? Greedy? Self-absorbed? Well, no joke, dumb@*** - we're a capitalist (created that way at least) society, we currently have the highest standard of living ANYWHERE on this planet, we have more freedoms than any other country has combined probably, yet America - by the young, socialist-engrained little monsters that you all sound like - is still looked at as some horrible piece of garbage. It's bad enough you people don't have schools that will teach you the fundamentals of what's so great about America, but it's even worse when you don't have a parent that molds you into thinking that if it weren't for this country, YOU WOULDN'T be even allowed to state your opinions. Talk about taking stuff for granted; you childish babies...grow the heck up, and get some common sense. I, for one, am completely appalled that this country gets attacked JUST because we have money or wealth, or sooo much more than everyone else. Read the Constitution and Declaration of Independence for once, damn. Fortunately, I was able to come to my senses after sharing somewhat the same views you people possess (I never looked at America as selfish though), but now that I DO have a grasp of what America really is, well ...it just pisses me off that you fools have no clue as to what you're talking about. You're either one of two things: a freedom-loving capitalist, or a human-oppressing socialist. Take your pick. And if you choose the human-oppressing socialist, then you are, in my opinion, an enemy of the state.
