quote:
People Eating Tasty Animals is a rather amateurish organization.

Are you referring to the real PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) or the fake one (People Eating Tasty Animals)?
quote:
If you want to get your point across and make people think you are a legit organization, here's a tip:

Don't throw paint on random celebrities and wearers of fur.

Here's the thing with that one: That wasn't PETA's idea, it was the activists' idea, so you can't blame PETA for it.
quote:
Don't hire employees who assist in the euthanization of puppies.

I don't think that was in their job title...

Can you think of any "dos" rather than "don'ts"? I think PETA does a decent job of making themselves look legit (of course, they are legit, they still have a non-profit status after all).
quote:
I dislike them unless they are People Eating Tasty Animals... yum, sausage....

Ick, sausage disgusts me, and not just because they're made out of animal flesh, also because they're pretty gross looking (to me anyway), especially when they put cheese in them (I've watched way too many food shows on shopping channels...).

Oh please, that joke has been used so many times by so many people (and on a multitude of t-shirts and other merchandise) that it's practically a cliche now.

My opinion on PETA can be summed up in the following:

One summer we were doing one of those one sentence at a time horror stories around the campfire...somehow the tree-hugging PETA members cropped up as the monster...*screams and runs...waving hands around wildly...abandoning her computer completely*

Well, obviously PETA wasn't perfectly represented by that episode. As far as I know, PETA doesn't encourage bestiality or inter-species marriage.

What about Shiloh, Lassie, Homeward Bound, Dr. Dolittle and so many more?

Those movies all have domesticated animals in them. Dogs and cats can be humanely trained to do tricks and such. With undomesticated animals like chimps, it's different. They have to use very young chimps because the older ones are much stronger and hard-headed. And as you could possibly predict, when the chimp "actors" get too old to be in the business, they're sent away and replaced by a younger set (sometimes to a good sanctuary, but all too often to bad sanctuaries, roadside zoos and laboratories). (see this website for more info: www.nomoremonkeybusiness.com )
All in all, PETA believes that if an animal doesn't have to be used (like if certain technologies exist to replace the animal in a certain scene or scenes), they shouldn't.

Which, in many cases, happen to be BASED upon animal tests so the volunteer doesn't die foaming at the mouth. We use rats and rabbits instead. Makes sense to me.

Things still happen to the volunteers, mostly because it can be difficult to extrapolate data collected from animal studies to man. Rats and rabbits are physiologically different from humans.
quote:
I don't know, why are PETA memebers against the "exploitation" of animals for medical purposes, yet use animal-derived insulin? My bet is that they're a bunch of ignorant hypocrits.

Actually, it's because they want to use their lives to help more animals than if they were dead. I think you're referring to Mary Beth Sweetland, am I right? I think she uses Humulin, a synthetic human insulin. Regardless, even if she had decided to die rather than take the insulin, you'd be here saying what an extremist nut she was, so there's no winning for her here!
quote:
Vegetarianism is a luxury, and I don't want my tax dollars going to fund a program like that.

Who said it had to be a "program"? Surely it wouldn't cost that much to have at least one vegetarian option on the cafeteria menu every day. While you're at it, you might as well say that schools shouldn't be required to have healthy foods because healthy foods are expensive (compared to junk/fatty foods) and healthy eating is a luxury. Roll Eyes
quote:
PETA can set up thier own program, fine with me, but don't go wasting my money so little naive Suzie can be "enabled" to go veggie. She can pay for that herself.

"Enabled"? This isn't a drug or alcohol addiction we're talking about here! Perhaps if more children ate vegetarian meals (I'm not even saying that they be forced to give up meat entirely) there wouldn't be such an epidemic of childhood obesity.

And PETA believes that kids should be able to choose a meat-free school lunch instead of having meat forced on them if they don't bring a bagged lunch.
