Based on a new report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the ice shelves in Anartica are thickening. Based on monitoring tests from 1992 to 2003, the Anartic continent has grown at an average rate of a centimeter a year. This thickening of ice has slowed oceanic sea level rise by .12 millimeters a year, a move than many environmental scientists deemed unlikely. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change IPCC

The reason Bush gave out was that the Kyoto Protocal "would cause serious harm to the U.S. economy" and that he didn't support the split between Annex I countries and others. Now give me a break, the whole world is being unrealistic except that i-am-always-right nation and Bush is totally an expert in environmentalism......

quote: But with our currrent president, I think global warming is comming alot quicker than you think. He basicly is at war with the envoirment. For example, recently there was a big international treaty that said countries that signed it would cut back on emmisions, which in turn would prevent global warming. The U.S.A. was the ONLY major industrial country not to sign the act. I wonder why?
What an ignorant thing to say. At war with the environment?!? Come on, give me a break. We broke th Kyoto Protocal because the standards set out in it were unrealistic and the point of the treaty was for Europe to make the US look bad. In fact, the year of standards, 1992, was when Germany, the biggest contributor to Greenpeace, had the highest emmissions. Coincidence, I think not.

Yes carbon dioxide is naturally occurring. So is sulfur oxide. So is methane. So is nitrous oxide. And all, in excessive amounts, can cause global warming. Haven't you read anything of what I posted against reactionary? There was a delicate balance for the output and intake of CO2 in the atmosphere. Animals, decaying organic matter, and volcanic eruptions give off C02, and plants and the oceans absorb it. However, since the Industrial Revolution (increased factories), that balance has been disrupted. The human element, you see. Yes, in relation to nature, humans don't give off that much CO2. Yet even a little bit hurts. One drop can cause a glass to overflow. That is why CO2 emissions need to be cut. It will cause--and indeed is causing--global warming.

the thing is, CO2 is a natrually occuring gas. we give of CO2 and the trees need it. so a plentiful supply wouldnt be a bad thing. no?

I don't see CO2 anywhere on that list, red. And CO2 is the worst especially in the US. Shall I quote some rather large numbers at you?

dont you be pitching this so called "global warming" on Bush. His Clear Skies Initiative would cut SO2 by 73%, NOx by 67%, and Mercury by 69%. -Testimony of Christine Todd Whitman Administrator U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Before the Clean Air Subcommittee Of the Committee on Environment and Public Works United States Senate April 8, 2003

I don't care about the ice cubes over there. What I know is this extraordinary weather pattern has brought countless floods to China this year causing over 400 deaths in a few weeks. A hundred years ago,the number of villages affected were 10% of that of today.Don't tell me it's got nothing to do with modern industries. If you really think economies are important, take the earth seriously.

So you'd rather the US be the major CO2 producing country instead? I thought you said environments were fragile.

Because economies are just as fragile as environments, and just as important. Kyoto was nothing more than a ploy to tie the hands of American industry and I applaud President Bush for not lowering himself to the socialist's level.

Well, the rate of global warming is increasing rapidly due to our increasing use of fossil fuels. It's scary how much the rate has accelerated over the past 30 or so years.

The graph was compiled from a myriad of sources, not all of them American. And Strangelove, look at the graph as a whole. Temperatures have increased while CO2 has increased. Prior to the mid-1800s, temperature and CO2 stayed relatively constant. Starting at around 1860 (the beginning of my graph), both began to increase. How else can you explain that? Please, answer that question.

I hope your graph wasn't compiled by the government. It has leaked out that the government reports on iceflow in the artic and antartic were twisted or fabricated by oil companies so that safety and pollutant regulations would be vetoed.
