Every year in Canada, hundreds of thousands of baby harp seals are mercilessly slaughtered for their skins, and we want you to help get this cruel practice banned by signing Pamela Anderson's seal petition.... LINK... http://www.petatv.com/tvpopup/Prefs.asp?video=seal07&chgpref=1

quote: That is an interesting idea, spraying the baby seals' coats orange so that they are worthless, does it hurt the seals in any way, well this may sound stupid, but if not I wish we could spray every animal who is killed for fur a bright orange, then maybe fur trading would decrease...
Well, it sure doesn't hurt them as much as killing them would. It wouldn't work for all animals, only those with prized milk coats. These only grow once in the pup's life. So unless you went to fur farms every year and sprayed all stock, it wouldn't work. I agree though, if only it did work . Maybe, you could mess with genetic system at the farms, and cause all the offspring's coat to be worthless, but that would require some research. HEY! There's a job option!

my heart literally broke at this. I wish there was some way to just tell these people how wrong their actions are, I don't know how they can do something like that, especially to a baby seal, and live with a clean conscious?!! I just understand it and it is so frustrating! the thing that steered me towards animal rights and veganism was when I was 6 yo and watching a doco about the seal clubbing. I still remember the show and how much it made me upset and cry. it is a sickening thing. the same thing could be said of all fur. not just from cute cuddly animals. i agree that petitions alone don't work, but are a good means of increasing awareness. they are also very helpful when used with an effective action. i made some important changes at my university which started from a simple petition. whether it's followed through with some action is what matters.
if not you, who? if not now, when?

People who kill these poor, defenseless animals are heartless...it should be filed under animal cruelty. At this rate, harp seals will go extinct...and I agree petitions are stupid.

I agree. Would signing a paper really stop fur companies from killing seals? I don't think so. Paper is nothing compared to action.

I don't understand how someone could kill a baby harp seal. They're so cute! People who kill them are either desperate for money or have no emotion. What people do now to protect the pups is they take a bottle of orange spray paint and they go around spraying the pups white coats. (They only have the white coats when they are babies) When they spray them, they make their coats worthless.
