"Because of our high consumption, each person in the U.S. has an enormous impact on the environment.. A person in the U.S. produces 7 pounds of garbage per day. Over a lifetime, each child will produce 200,000 pounds of garbage, will consume 10M gallons of water, will drive 1/2 M miles and burn 20,000 gallons of gasoline. Each additional child in the U.S. will want a house, lumber, paint, etc. for the house, a TV, phone, car, a lifetime supply of gas for the car, washing machine, refrigerator, air conditioner, a lifetime supply of electricity for light and heat, thousands of batteries, newspapers every day, ... In short, each baby born in the U.S. requires tons of resources and will generate mountains of waste products."

SO??? does that mean that when we do get married, we shouldnt have kids??? Why do you always blame children??? I say, blame it to those who are WASTING the resources. Yes, we do use natural resources, but blaming children will never work because all human beings can make babies. If children are not present in this world, then maybe we are not humans. Probably, those who are blaming the children are aliens from mars.
I would rather blame government officials for not imposing strict rules on the proper use of natural resources. I think that is a wise way of solving things.... By blaming officials and having a petition to let them know that they should impose more strict rules than blame the procreation of humans. Humans will always give birth so it is wrong to say that children are the cause of this problem.

but you don't need to pump out children when there are already ones that need a home. It will ease the strain if some people had a heart.

Yeah, I know it's an evil thought, but it's a harsh reality.

Don't let Luvabug hear you say that.

I believe that it is her who I have argued with about overpopulation being an issue.

Overpopulation is one of the reasons why abortion shouldn't be banned.

Well, if overpopulation is our problem than we can always halt medical intervention in health problems. I'm betting that would trim it nicely (even if it wouldn't solve the whole problem). Perhaps we should also mandate such methods as vasectomies for people who have already had two children (or maybe even none). Has anyone read Kurt Vonnegut's "Welcome to the Monkey House"? It hypothesizes about a society likewise plagued by overpopulation which institutes (among other practices) suicide parlors to encourage depopulation. I realize that all the things I suggest are frivolous likely unfeasible in our society, just imagining possible solutions other than relying upon possible scientific advancements in waste reduction. Mere speculation on my part.
I appreciate that someone is looking at overpopulation in terms of waste generation rather than food consumption.

to me all 4 of the issues you stated do not require our intervention.

Kinda makes me think about how people like to complain about things that aren't problems. Very interesting.
