For me, i don't recycle. but i would if i had the trash can and the money for a truck to pick it up every week. but don't think me as an environmentalist. I'm conservative.

If the services are available, why wouldn't you recycle?

Okay, I have a few thoughts on this:

1: We've all heard of the 3 R's Reduce Reuse Recycle. I believe that they are in that order for a reason. We must also reduce the amounts of things we use. That way they don't have to be created or recycled at all, which save more energy. Then, we can reuse. Buy a water bottle and reuse it instead of recycling it. Once again, then less will have to be produced. Finally, recycle what you can't reuse.

2: Recycling isn't a difficult task and it bother me when people disregard it. I have a friend who's family owns a restaurant, and they don't recycle. As you can imagine, they have huge amounts of packaging and bottles, ect... int thier home and workplace that they just discard. It would require very little effort to recycle all of that, but they refuse to, claiming that they're "too busy."

At school, in the hallways there are garbage cans and there are recycling pails, right beside each other. Students will walk by, and chuck their pop bottle in the garbage. WHY? The recycling pail is right there. It requires NO extra effort to recycle in this case, people are just ignorant and don't care.

3: I'm not completely convinced at the efficiency of recycling, at least not in my area. I live in a small town, and though many people recycle, someone must come from a city 45 kms away to pick up the entire town's recycling. Once a week they come, with a pick-up truck pulling a trailer. They stop at each home, leave the truck running, get out and throw the recycling into the trailer. They don't make it all compact, just throw it in there. I can't see how this is at all efficient. The gas spent driving 90 kms a week (only to my town, never mind the other towns in the area) and leaving the vehicle running for the 2 hours or so it takes for them to collect each home's recyling, just isn't worth it.

Still though, I recycle.

I recycle. I'm very much into it. At my school, we are beginning to recycle, but it's still a slow process. At my house, we've been recycling for YEARS.

I don't understand why people don'trecycle. You get money [sometimes] and your doing something good for the planet you live on.

I try to be stuff that's recyclable or has been used fromr ecycled products. It makes me feel good, knowing I'm trying NOT to contribute to global warming. Big Grin

We recycle at my house. We don't have a box for cans but we put them in a clear bag at the end of our drive so they can be recycled. The only exception to that is when we have parties. It is hard to keep track of all those cans.

We recycle at school too. Our school is big on the environment.

We recycle at school and at work, and we try to at home, but we forget and accidentally throw stuff away.

Why should it matter if you are lazy? Are you still going to be lazy 20 years from now when the Earth is basically one large land fill, and everybody looks at people like you and say, " Why didn't you just do it?"

Are you going to say " I'm just too lazy" or " they didn't pay me enough"? NO! Please, try to sell that somewhere else. Being lazy is NOT AN EXCUSE!

I recycle tin cans, aluminum, and sometimes paper as often as possible.

However recycling plastics is really inefficient and might actually create more pollution. It certainly creates more cost for a lower quality product.

Personally, I think we should break down used plastics into fuel oil. Much more useful, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective.

Paper, as I hinted at, is dubious also. Most paper in the US comes from tree farms that don't contribute to deforestation. In chopping down these trees, turning them to paper, then burying it in landfills after we're done, we're sequestering more carbon from the atmosphere and helping to curb the human-driven component of climate change.

I recycle frequently. And, am often the one who takes others cans to the recycle bin for them ,if they are too lazy to help save the world.

Yes, i recycle. I encourage everyone around me to recycle. I recycle as much as i can. If people dont recycle, i either think that they dont know how much it would help to recycle or that person doesnt care about the earth. I sometimes take the effort to buy recycled material products

I definitely recycle! I honestly do not understand when people say it is a difficult task to recycle, especially with all the available recycling centers these days. If your regular trash pick-up doesn't have a separate bin for things you can recycle...just put them in a separate container, and take them down to a recycle center. It benefits the environment, and it doesn't hurt that you can make a few bucks off it in the process. Smile

Oh course I recycle. There really is no excuse not to. I try to buy products with the least amount of packaging possible, but when I can't avoid packaging I at least make sure its recyclable.

Some people seem to think its okay as much bottled water or packaged food as they want as long as they recycle it, but if the packaging is made of virgin materials you are wasting a lot of resources and energy. Buying something made from recycled materials that can be recycled again is better, since it uses less resources and energy, but it is still better to just avoid buying it altogether.

In our 'disposable society' recycling is definately a good thing and saves a lot of room in land fills.

For those people that don't recycle - it isn't hard, so just do it. You'll save our landfills from being filled up so quickly and you'll encourage companies to buy recycled materials.
