earthbound12, I am a complete animal lover too, but Ikki is right...
cats aren't a native species here, and they kill off the native birds and small mammals, so letting them roam and breed freely can cause destruction of more animals... same thing with dogs.
And animals do need to be hunted, or they overpopulate. And because we have pushed off all the natural predators (wolves, coyotes, mountain lions), we need hunters to keep the populations down.
If you have been to Shenandoah National Park and the land around it, you'll see why. They've had a deer problem for years, and once they killed off too many so that there was none and they had to re-introduce them. Since then, the deer have become to overpopulated, and many of the deer are starving. They haven't been cut down because of fear of what happened last time, but many more healthy deer are dying now then if they were hunted. It's a harsh fact that I had to learn too, but it's better for the animals to be hunted a little than not hunted at all.
I find it interesting that you didn't mention any carnivores on your list... we need them too balance the ecosystem.

Or maybe I care about them enough to not want them overpopulated so that disease and starvation kills them, or that another animal cannot live in their area because a deer ate all of the food and destroyed the other animal's ecosystem.
There are other ways to care for animals out there. I just don't choose your way and opinion, and that is why I'm commenting.

Cats are an invasive species in most part of the world that could cause damage to fragile ecosystems. Other native animals as well (think deer), in overabundance, can destroy ecosystems, especially when their natural lands and predators have been minimized to the point that the land cannot sustain the numbers they used to hold.
