I was working in a marketing company as a part timer. During that time the company was moving its storage goods to a new place and so clearence of old stocks need to be made such as expiry products and damaged products. These stock need to be dump in our local dumping garbage area. I was given the chance to follow and have a look as I never been such place before. After 45 minutes drive, we were almost there, few km from the security gate, I could smell the foul smell of garbage. After registering with the security, I was shocked to see the piles of garbage and the size of the wasteland. This is where all the everyday rubbish dumped by the people in the city. The size was almost the size of the city Im stayin in, the driver next to me said that there was more, under the ground they had burried the rubbish. Again I was shocked. It took 10 or more minutes drive to get to a new spot to dump the stocks as the place had hardly enough space for further dumping. But they are still going to enlarge the space for dumping. There was a huge number of natives working there under the government, old, young and even kids that are only 5 years of age. They were searching the garbage for anything reuseble. Their full with dirt, torned cloths. Once I open the door, the smell was horible! Smell of rotten food, smell of roten corpse, fly are all over the place. I cant barely breath, felt like vomitting.I slamed the truck door, but still I can smell it. But then I thought, the poor people could survive, I'll also have to do it. took a deep breath and got down and help. once i got down, all the people there was fighting over for the stocks and seek for something useful..a kid approached me and asked "do you have any food to spare?" My heart felt a pain, I paused, lost for word. Then they left and join the other for the search.
Sigh... our enviroment, our land, earth, what will it become in the future with the rubbish continously coming, is there any room left? and also the poor people there, food is a problem for them, but the young need education as well, proper clothing and hygine. Surely they are unhealthy with the environment like that.
Please kindly post any comment, thanks you!!

quote: I think the fact that we as humans believe in the notion that we can harm the earth all by ourselves is a true testament to human vanity. If you think about it, before humans were here 90 percent of all species died off. We came along and decided to save all species i.e. the endangered species list. Also before humans were her there were several ice ages, and something strong enough to kill all of the dinosaurs, now we humans are blaming the changes in the earth's habitat on ourselves. We need to stop being so vain and realize that the earth runs in cycles: there just isn't much humans could to do change it.
and what scientist did you get that from? (oh, my new puppy is so cute!!!)

While burning may sometimes seem like a solution, it's not. It's then no longer ground pollution, it's air pollution, even worse. Tossing it into space will... A. cost billions of dollars. B. Emit pollution to actually get it into space. C. Then there would be garbage in space which will probably act like meteors and other space materials, and there's a hundred more reasons... it won't work... My idea... make a car that runs on garbage. It is possible, garbage does emit a fuel. Now I just need to figure out how to engineer that. HA HA HA HA.

Heyy. Im new here so I may sound like a sap but i agree with you when you imply that something needs to be done. I feel that our only problem is the solution that we need to come up with. Everyone fights over what solution to consider while the environment continues to grow worse every day. Cant we simply burn the garbage and toss it out into space?? (I know...naive.) It seems like a better solution than letting all of that garbage pile up, and there are still some people who will not step up to the plate and take action (Ex: recycling)

About the garbage ,its serious but not that serious . At a personal level recycle atleast make sure you segregate the stuff properly so it can be recycled . And the Land Use and Land Development kind of includes developing absolute waste lands too . As soon as it fills up they'l just develop over it . If your sad about the ragpickers . Now thats a little more serious . More than the part about them being hungry and stuff like that they get cut on stuff , infected with needles catch loadsa diseases. That is really sad.If the waste management was carried out properly even at the dumping site they could probably get safe jobs with what they are doing itself .

Ah yes...Obi wan kenobi...hehe, Im a star wars fan too.
Yea, thats true, even me myself I do throw rubbish, but I still try and cut it down, thos that are recycleble I ll recycle. But think of the future, look foward, is there anymore space for furhter dumping? Apart from that, the people who are working there, they need to be help, I tried by giving my old cloth and bring some biscuites during my second visit. How do they live? we are lucky, damn lucky. About the people there! they are suffering, but there is nothing that can be done.
Please people...more comment please
