Hi. My name is Helen and I'm the coordinator for the Sierra Student Coalition's Arctic campaign ( www.ssc.org). As some of you may have heard, the Senate voted to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The vote was 51-49! If you are disturbed by this, call your senators and express your outrage or happiness over their votes. Call the capital switchboard at 1-800-247-2971 and ask to speak with your senators. Below is a list of how everyone voted. If you are interested in learning more about the issue or want to get more involved, post a reply. I'd love to hear from you! I can't believe people still believe drilling in ANWR will make gas prices go down! Face it, people, gas is going to always be high. Look at the facts from this article: quote: The DOE expects that ANWR would contribute roughly about 0.7% to the world's total oil output in 2020. The U.S. Geological Study (USGS) concluded that, given America's current rate of consumption, ANWR would in all likelihood hold a 180-day (6-month) supply of oil. The bottom line is that it is time for the U.S. to stop thinking it can drill its way to energy independence with only 3 percent of the world's oil reserves.
I think that last sentence states it perfectly. Besides, why is everyone so eager to get into ANWR when 95% of the Arctic coastline is already open to "energy exploration" as our nation's government so calls it? I honestly hate you people who think Alaska is either part of Canada (or should be part of Canada) or think ice is it's most popular export. Have you ever been to Alaska? Have you ever lived there? I didn't think so. Take it from a guy who spent half his life in Anchorage. Nobody lives in igloos. Dog sleds are not the most common form of transport. It doesn't snow year round. You're thinking of the interior of Greenland. I'm gonna say this once and only once: get your facts straight before you put your fingers on that keyboard.
The more you know, the less you don't know.

About time Alaska was good for something aside from producing Jewel. Whoever said our gas prices better go down was right. And if not, eh, I probably won't care. Alaska's always been Canada to me.

Humans were made to stand upright, so why does everyone want to keep their heads between their *** cheeks. Wake up, already. There are other ways of producing energy and they are being overlooked. Where's the regard for the environment and future life. It's sad.

I just noticed that both of my democrat senators are insane. That is sad.

Since when is our oil more important than our environment? For heaven's sakes, we're going to be stuck on this earth and if it is full of oil wells, then that is our loss. Geez, there are other ways to provide energy rather than klling our environment. Helen, I will see what I can do. Cheers!

All I know is that my gas prices had better go down if we are destroying nature for oil. We have gone up over .30 in the last week here in omaha and it isn't even summer yet. $2.34 a gallon is nuts.
