quote: alnswed: For someone who didnt give a damn other than taste and needs, y should you give a damn about the Amazon...
I mostly just find it ironic, especially since a lot of vegetarians I know don't eat meat for environmental reasons (like you said, grazing takes up a lot of land, too). But the Amazon is slightly more important to my needs. Trees take in carbon dioxide and emit oxygen. No trees, no oxygen.

EarthGoddess quote: "Yes, but she could do even more if she grew her own food. Or is that too inconvenient?" Hello? My point was that she is most probably doing more than you in minimising impact. It was a qualitative statement about how much she does in comparison.. learn to read

Bet your glad you had burgers last night. GROSS!
I went to Fred Meyers to buy soy products one day. But there wasn't any on the shelves because it had all been recalled due to E. Coli. GROSS!! quote: Fair point, but its meateaters that are contributing to MORE land clearing. How? The land clearing to produce crops to feed your cattle... Improperly cleaned vegetables are just as dangerous. quote: Just wondering.. have any of you vegetable eaters heard about the millions of tons of spinich that was recalled last year. A recall that has still affected spinich growers. Yeah, that's why I joined a CSA. (community supported agriculture)

Here's something I find highly ironic. Vegans and vegetarians often consume products made of soy beans in lieu of meat products. Much of the Amazon rainforest is being cut down to make room for...soy bean farms. /quote]

[quote: this question are to the vegans... so do you get all your vitamin needs from pills and whatever? /quote]
Personally I dont take multivitamins, as I am one of the few vegans out there that actually researches and properly control my diet, by making sure I address all my nutritional needs.
However, we are unable to consume the much needed vitamin B12, which is only found in animal products, and rotten garbage. Since I dont want to consume either, I drink soy products that have been fortified with the Vitamin, and also a can of V (i dont kow if you guys have that in the States?). I hear from alot of pro-meat eaters that fortified foods are lacking, but then again all the Aussie milk here is even fortified with calcium and vitamins!! I dont know what its like in the U.S?
Considering, the average person's RDI (Australian) is only 2 micrograms of B12 per day, and since the human body only loses small traces of B12 over a lengthy period of time, my B12 levels are fine.
I think everyone, especially vegans should get regular blood checks, as I do every 6 months, and my tests have come back fine...and I've been vegan for 12 yrs..
Each to their own, I guess...

[quote: That's fancy talk for "EarthGoddess, beat me. So, instead of admitting it, I'll come up with some 'clever' comeback that is really unfunny and unoriginal." /] lol..no, i dont think you have beaten me, as i dont see this as some form of 'contest'. perhaps, i'm not use to people using "sarcasm and light insults." in their debates. "sarcasm is the lowest form of wit" so the saying goes I dont think you'll scare me away as I don't consider myself a 'vegan psycho'. If i do not reply to a point, it may not be due to you beating me, but it may be that a more interesting point has risen. just as you have not responded to all my points, does that mean i've 'beaten' you in those areas? no, scientific method works just not on a hypothesis, but actually stating one and then finding out to see if it is fundamentally true...give me the study and evidence, then i'll deem it as of having some acknoweldgeable substance. You're using your OWN personal hypotheis as being universally true and documented. [quote: Certain human bodies are designed to eat raw meat. Wanna know what Eskimo means? RAW MEAT EATER! /quote] of course they have because they have ADAPTED to their environment over a period of time..thats why they never get sick from it. Non-native people suck...fair enough (they dont happen to be vego, too btw?) brain shrinkage... Are you sure it is just due to meat consumption being supposedly lower, or the fact of a change in lifestyle choices over that time period as well? i've also come across studies that support the idea that alcohol, stress, cigarette smoking, and technological advances, have also contributed to brain shrinkage. And all of these have increased significantly in the same time span. osteoporosis and calcium loss.. You make it sound as it is only vitamin D defieciency, and it isnt. Yes, its a major contributor, but like I pointed out before, and there is research to support it, the higher sulphur-to-calcium ratio of meat increases calcium excretion, and a diet rich in meat can cause bone demineralization, by your body drawing out more calcium during the excretory processes, is in itself another major contributor. [quote: I'd bring up something profound, I get called a nasty name and they leave forever. /quote] that wont happen from me as I dont resort to name calling, such as dorks and psychos. I know I'll live..water off a duck's back. [quote: I'm pretty sure she ate other things, genius. /quote] I'm sure she did but this is in response to a claim that only diets with meat increases your chances of living longer. I just used an example, that supported otherwise. I didnt raise the age/diet thing, and I agree with you that there are other factors involved in longevity. To be honestly true, even if I do reach that age in which I have great, great, great grandkids, i wont remember because of the lack of DHA in my diet would have contributed to my Alzheimers

I think you misunderstand me: meat tastes good. That's why I eat it. quote: alnswed: ppl just dont care about things outside their own needs Well, why should I care? My needs take priority. If I can't satisfy my own needs, I can't do anything else.
