Who would've thought, the ex vice president would ever show an interest in the environment. It's funny really, I haven't read into it much at all and I'm sure it's got elements of a fantastic money-grabbing media stunt, but all in all I was mildly impressed. I watched the interview Oprah Winfrey had with him about his new movie, that one with leo decaprio in it (another apparant eco-friendly celeb), the interview in all had serious shock value. The evidence towards how many natural disasters and global warming increase there has been since the 70's is seemingly out of control, it's mad. Or so it seemed, it could just be that we've recorded the "natural" disasters a little better since the 70's.
This afternoon I was approached by the "I'm in" campaign for oxfam. There's a whole lot I wanna write about that, but in terms of Africa, the global effects are significantly unfair. I am aware the "im in" campaign has little to do with the environment, and more to do with poverty, but Africa has yet again been cheated. I'm going to take this other programme I was watching, visually its a perfect example of what is happening, what is going to happen, basically I found it all very ironic. "Fat men can't hunt", a bunch of obese brits go to live with a tribe and follow a tribe, a tribe who's culture is to live. I find the term live is totally abused. I will elaborate, one of the "fat men" from this show, called mike, was becoming increasingly aggrovated due to the lack of sugar, variety, and yummy foods in his diet, there were over 10,000 calories at the camp in the form of tasteless nut type things and he would not eat any. His hunger made him moody, in the western world, when one is moody, we chose to take it out on other people, haha. So, the lovely mike (who personally if I ever ran into him I'd likely punch him some place sensitive) decided that to release this mood he would insult the tribe, he called them poor and made them feel ashamed. ASHAMED to be one of the best things given to our earth, these humble, beautiful people, who chose to live. Most of the people in their culture have now moved to the cities but the few tribespeople who haven't, live a life of moving camp to camp collecting food to eat, the men hunt and the women pick berries. They reproduce, they laugh and smile. But when they are hungry, or angry, they do not insult, even though Mike was completely rude they accepted him back into the "experiment". Mike did it again, and they accepted him back again, how humble, this man had completely insulted them because he felt like it out of hunger, not true hunger (as there WAS food) hunger that had been caused by his indulgent western culture. I sometimes wish I had been born into "poverty" atleast these people appreicate the meaning of life.
"Africa is being cheated again by the industrialised West," says Jacob Nyanganji of Nigeria's University of Maiduguri.
It's true, and it's a sorry sight. The western world is causing poverty in Africa, but what's funny is financially we have the solution, and environmentally we can help, we chose not to. In their societys, they dont need to indulge, because they dont need to compete. The western worlds have the worst case of class divide, over indulgence, and pollution. We take the piss. Every single one of us. We were given the gift of life, and we abuse it. LIVING is to live, to breathe, reproduce, feel, eat, and pass our bowels every now and again, there shouldnt be a "good" or "bad" way of life, a better or worse. But there is because we make it that way, we chose to create high fashion, ridiculously unhealthy processed crappy foods, abusive tendancies, rich and poor. What a joke, I'm ashamed.
Life is precious, Al gore realised this when he nearly lost his son, and then he realised how much he was taking from life, so he decided to give back. i've asked people why they dont want to give back to the earth, and they laugh and dont even think about it, it's not even a passing thought to them. I don't understand this type of attitude, its indulgent and selfish. I siad, what about your children, when you reproduce your children will have to live in fear of "natural disaster" because of your neglect. They dont even accept it as a valid statment, they dont even appreciate it. >.< this makes me angry, but I dont like to be particularly angry. Whatever. Okay, perhaps all of this environmental stuff is a little exxagerated, but even if it is, there is global warming, and disasters are occuring more frequently. So dont chose to do nothing, chose to do something, and most importantly live. Don't be like Mike, that man will get nowhere, and he will be punished.Karma.
The oxfam man I met today is being paid £8.00 an hour (thats more than my mums bf gets paid) to stand on the street and get people to sign a petition type thing, basically "be in" The money he gets paid comes from the government. So, they chose to create employment for people to do this, and sometimes to travel to africa to join in conservation acts etc, (which causes more pollution and long term will affect africa even worse) instead of defeating the problem right from the core. If they get connected with other EU contries, who probably pay out for charity street workers also, they could pay off africa's debt and help them get back on their feet and out of poverty, they could introduce less indulgent lifestyles here so that africa can live.
haha, all in all its very ironic. What a crazy world
