I'm sick of people using human dominance over animals as an arguing point. We are not superior to to the animal kingdom. Humans are animals too, but we were just lucky enough to have a higher known intelligence quotient than most other species, as well as opposable thumbs. you were born with your intelligence, you didnt earn it, so you shouldnt use it to exploit thing dumber than you.

I agree with Panterayall, animals are inferior and should be treated as so.

Maybe one day I will change my mind if all the animals got together and formed a bill of rights that was recognized by our government.

They do hurt me. My self-esteem will never be the same since that fateful day a vegan called me an animal-killer...

Vegans don't hurt you so why do you care?

Many vegans will argue until blue in the face that they are misunderstood. They call themselves "straight edge."

Now, this is the more over-zealous/over excited vegans. Not all are like this. This IS like saying all muslims are terrorists or all skinny people are anorexic.

I may have asked this before, but I'll say it again. If "God" didn't want us to eat meat, then why can we? Just a question for all you people who are vegans or vegetarians for religious reasons.

I read it as Buddhism being the only religion that had had war declared in the name of it. I mis-read it, and it confused me. Smile

Actually God says that we're supposed to have dominion over the beast of the earth and the fowl of the air, and that they're supposed to be for our use.

I would beg to differ. What about the Crusades? They were pretty religious based. And the Israelite-Palestinian thing has a lot of religious bases too. However, still off topic.

Anyways, I like salad. With bacon bits it's even better. Notice we're classified as OMNIVORES. Not herbivores, not carnivores. OMNIVORES.

Actually, did you know there is no true carnivore on Earth. They're all extinct. That's off topic too though.

I refuse to go vegan.

I have never seen a tiger eat a salad.

Cool!

If you people want to eat meat, that's okay. Lion King music: It's the circle of life. . .

I don't eat meat because I have a very weak conscience. I do eat dairy products because I would starve without them. My mom gave me a lengthy lecture on the importance of dairy in my diet the other day. I'll probably quit eating dairy when I'm eighteen, though.

There was a Buddhist speaker at school today and she made me think about an interesting paradox. Which is worse: having a cow killed to get your steak, or having hundreds of insects, slugs, etc. killed to get a Caesar salad? However, that only works if you put the same value upon all life, as Buddhists do.

Incidentally, did you know that Buddhism is the only religion that has never had a war declared in it's name? A bit off-topic, but an interesting fact.

Duh, I'm not that ignorant. I'm just saying that we have a choice, the animals don't, and it's a poor excuse for eating meat. Should we do everything animals do, like lick ourselves to get clean, kill each others' young, and run around naked? I don't think so.

let me tell this to all of you THE HUMAN RACE IS SUPERIOR TO ALL ANIMALS.

quote:
animals eat eachother why cant we do the same?

Do you realize how oxymoronic that was? We are superior and above all the animals, but we should be on the same level as an animal when it comes to what we eat? Animals can't choose what they eat, they have to eat whatever comes along to survive. Humans don't live like that, we can eat anything at any time, and we don't have to chase an animal down to get it either. Yes we are different from most wild animals, because we can choose what and when we eat.
quote:
You'd think that a God who doesn't want humans eating other animals would have lightning strike down hunters.

What about murderers? How many times have you heard of them being struck down by a stray lightning bolt? (and obviously God doesn't endorse murdering people)
Of course, that's not a good excuse to kill a person, but you get my point.

Superfreak, thank you for not bringing religion into your argument. To anyone who thinks eating animals is wrong because God said so: if God didn't want us to eat animals, why do we have canine teeth? Why has our appendix (a vegetable-matter related organ) withered to almost nothing? Why did he allow people to start killing animals?

You'd think that a God who doesn't want humans eating other animals would have lightning strike down hunters. However, that's not the case, so I'll go about doing what I think is right and eat whatever I feel like eating.

let me tell this to all of you THE HUMAN RACE IS SUPERIOR TO ALL ANIMALS. we are more intelligent then animals are, if we were not then it would be animals ruling the world not humans. granted animals are naturally superior to us in some areas. such as if you were fighting a lion in hand to hand combat you would probably lose. however the great things about humans is we can adapt to our situations. In the stone ages we made tools to give us an advatage over animals. If you want to talk about the mistreatment of animals that is one thing. but to deny that humans are not above animals that is just being stupid. look around you, is there any animal in the world that could have accomplished what you see around you? sky scrapers, computers? the answer is no, animals eat eachother why cant we do the same?
