You are what you log in as: a carpet rug! How dare you state that we employ illegal immigrants for the sole purpose of easing your heavy "sorting" burden.

nobody makes a big deal about recycling here (Jamaica). If you wanna, you do, if you dont wanna, you dont.

Recycling is a brilliant idea, sure. But, again, I see where it is just that at the end of the day for most people: an idea worth talking about with nothin' doin'!!

Okay, fine!!! Tell me what you think of me.... now ask me if I care...

Where I live we have to pay 50 dollars a month to have a guy come and pick it up, and WE have to seperate it before-hand. All they do is pick it up and drop it at the recycling center. I am not going to pay some dude 50 bucks to haul around plastic and glass when I can do it myself - but I don't have a truck or anything to haul around mass amounts of plastic and glass, so I just throw it away.

Here in Seattle, Recycling is a must (literally). We recycle plastics, glass, paper, aluminum, tin, cardboard, and...everything. It's all picked up curbside. If you put too many recycle-ables in the trash, your trash will not be picked up. If your trash isn't picked up too many times you can be fined. It's a law around here.

We can't even recycle plastic in Philly, unless we want to haul it all to certain collection sites every month, but it's more of a hassle than curbside. I think some of the sites just take it to the landfill anyway.

Yeah, typically you can make much better products out of plastics. Also, throwing away paper isn't really a huge deal because it's easily biodegradable/burnable, and our paper production industry in America is actually ADDING forest acreage to the country rather than chopping it down.

When I was ten my class took a trip to this bad-ass recycling center. I think almost all of it was made out of recyled material. The carpet was made out of soda bottles and the benches were made from plastic utensils.

I guess plastics is where it's at because I don't remember anything being made out of paper over there.

Probably. Paper recycling doesn't make much sense anyway. Plastic is where it's at.

Ha. At my school, we have recycling bins, but the janitors just dump the contents into the trash at the end of the day. I've seen them at it.

Maybe the recycle bins are just there so tree-huggers won't complain.

My stupid trash company makes us sort our recycleing crap, its the biggest pain in the ass. We have to go through our recycled material stuff, sort the cardboard, metal, plastic and glass, then put them in their "special" containers all because god forbid they need to employ 40 illegal immigrants for 6.50 an hour at the dump.

Recycling is quite important, but too many people neglect it, i.e. too lazy, don't care. However, in some places (becuase of facilities) only some materials are recycled. Where I live, only colored glass and metal are recycled. I think stiff cardboard and some plastic are recycled additionally, but generally they aren't. All paper is thrown out, which is a pity.
