This is just absurd:
http://www.oriononline.org/pages/om/05-6om/Dowie.htmlBasically, indigenous NATURAL peoples in various regions throughout the world are being kicked out of their homelands and forced to live in the poverty of adjacent cities and other settlements. They cannot carry on their original way of life as a result, and become assimilated.
Why? Because of so-called "environmental concerns." Western environmental organizations claim that the indigenous people (often hunter-gatherer types or small agricultural communities) are a "threat" to the natural habitat.
I just don't get it. The audacity here blows my mind. How is it that WESTERN environmental organizations claim that the natives are a "threat" when clearly it is western society itself that is 95% responsible (industry!) for the environmental destruction of the world.
These western "environmental" organizations obviously aren't being harmonious with nature; Participation in usage of industrial resources (machinery, computers, electricity, etc) is volutary subjugation into destruction of nature, at least far moreso than the indigenous peoples they are driving out. The natural societies they are driving out have lived that way for thousands of years in many cases.
As it looks here, they're trying to force people out and turn the regions into "parks" and such. But this approach doesn't make any sense, given how environmental destruction continues to increase rapidly no matter how many "parks" are made. Additionally, changing political climates will inevitably tear down the parks at some point for economic excuses.
On the other hand, the articles mentions that a FEW indigenous groups are forming partnerships with SOME environmental agencies to retain their natural lifestyles. This is a step in the right direction, but I believe that indigenous peoples really should just be left alone and retain their homelands for themselves.
Thoughts, anyone?
