REally? I didn't know that. How many actually do. According to one of the first uses of the word (in published material, according to the OED) is in the Irish Press in 1955. It says that true vegans don't eat honey. Is that true? If so, that's insane.

I don't eat honey and I'm a vegan. My thought is leave all animals alone unless its to nurture and care for them. However I'm not going to harass other vegans about honey.

Well, I'm vegan, but I eat a few things with honey in them. To me, that's going to the extreme. I mean, it's not like they're harming bees like they're harming cows and chickens in factory farms. Which is the whole reason I became vegan.

I don't actually care for honey. It gets everywhere. Same with syrup. And whole wheat muffins. But I'm not even considering veganism. Vegetarianism I'm close to for reasons that aren't about animal cruelty. Anyways, just wondering.

Yes, some vegans do abstain from honey. Mostly because they want to be morally consistant. (like Spatula pointed out) PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has a factsheet on the production of honey that pretty much lists the reasons why: Honey: From Factory-Farmed BeesBut some vegans don't think it's that big of a deal, and fear that honey abstaining vegans are sending the message that veganism is a near impossible thing and that can put people off (like it did to you, hubbabaloo). Please read this article from a guy who advocates veganism who disagrees with the whole honey thing: Why Honey is Vegan

I hadn't even thought about that before. But I guess it makes sense for them, considering it's an animal product, and it would be somewhat hypocritical to abstain from drinking milk but to still eat honey.

I would think it comes with the package deal. I don't think my cousin eats honey and she's a vegan.
