It can be said with a good measure of certainty that human creativity and ingenuity have been put to optimal use in the last few centuries. With tremendious breakthroughs in the area of science & technology; the world we live today have become a “brave new world”, variously described as the “fastest age”, “the global village” etc.

The relevance of computer age is felt in almost all aspects of the human life on earth.

What is the computer, one might ask? Computers are no other things than information systems or machines that accept data as input, saves in memory, processes and brings back readable information for huiman appreciation. Computers can also be defined as any information processing machine or system. System in the sense that it works collectively to perform various functions or tasks under he division of labour code. Each parts performing its own task at as when due.

Computer, a better described “invention of the century”, have come to stay with human beings and impact on their state and the society to enable humanity perform accurate jobs and quicker tasks can be found in virtually as I mentioned earlier, wherever human beings are found especially this our own generation or age. It can be found in Industries, Offices, Cyber Cafes, churches, Schools, shops, homes and in fact every place where data is being kept or stored for the future or for the day-to-day activities and in all places where human beings are.

Computers are blessings to users because it makes for information availability at all times, gives long and lasting storage and easier task performance. For the cyber café users, it gives unlimited information and access to emails and files and downloads, it gives employment for the unemployed youths and serves as a great money making machine for owners. For the storekeeper, it makes for easier data keeping and storage and also gives way for information collection. For many others, the computer is helping the brain to think less while performing optimally and accurately.

However, for every coin, it is two sides, whatever has advantages should possess disadvantages, even to the minimal, the computer’s advent in the human society comes with many dangers, dangers to scholars who now rely on its for everything, be it calculation or theoretical works, without consulting the brains, it becomes a problem should the computer be not. It is also a serious loss to the storekeeper who cannot access his or her computer when the information is required, due to power failure. To humanity, it has been a world of spam mails- fraudsters rejoices and use the computer to cheat and dupe innocent and unsuspecting citizens via the computer aided Internet network, a real human issue with no solution at present.

The computer also allows room for virus dissemination a substance that destroys information and files and also makes its security questioned, and that makes information access bad for users who hold it reliable for work.

Taking a critical review of the computer and its relevance to human society, you will agree with me that despite its disadvantages, there is still great hope for the future with the computer. What people need is education and training, education to know, to understand, to differentiate between the good and the bad while working assiduously to prevent the bad sides of the event. The computer functions well as man functions and programmes it, what we need is sound knowledge of its usage to make our work more flexible and improve on it. The computer despite its dangers remains a veritable avenue for self-actualization, money making and unlimited information accessibility etc. So let us rise up to the challenge and be in charge.

Finally, we need education to know that the computer is no end in itself, but a means to an end, we need to know more

Computers are the way of the future, plain and simple.

In fact, the entire concept of Transhumanism (A personal favorite of mine), revolves around concepts of the computer, and how they can benefit our lives. They are the perfect arm of the law (Singulitarianism is a good example of an idea that uses this, if I remember it's tenet's right), because a computer only follows the logic it is given. Computers do not make mistakes, and computers, for the most part, are only as bad as the users.

A computer will not replace the tacticle senses one can gain from many events though. For instance, no matter how much iTunes/BitTorrent/Gnutella can offer me, I will still go and buy from my local record store. Why? Nothing can replace the feeling of a CD/Vinyl/Tape in my hands. (And yes, I still buy tapes.) With that said, a computer can deliever content, on demand, accurately. We should use this to benefit ourselves.

Computers are to be humanity's salvation, if it is to be saved. Hackers will be the wave of the future along with it. Many people can argue how, "Computers crash", or "They cost tons of money", etc. These are all human errors, and are no direct fault of the computer. We should not blame it on the computer, but on the users who inaccurately use it. (There's this thing called Linux. It solves a lot of those problems too. You want good software? Check SourceForge, and look for Open Source projects)

I never have problems with my computer. Computers are like any other appliance. You need to take good care of them to avoid having to shell out the big bucks to fix them or retrieve your data.

Other than that, I have nothing else to say. That was a very well-written post, henry.

Computers...ahh...where to begin?

They are great, I wouldn't be typing here, or anywhere for that matter, if they didn't exist. Research, games, AIM, "Word", "PowerPoint", Solitare (and Spider, too) are great. I probably would have a tougher life if I lacked a computer.

But here is where I begin to hate them...

They crash, they break, they cost tons of $$, fixing them is tough, losing information stinks, and they are somewhat addicting.

If they worked all the time and didn't require a lot of patience...I would like them more. But they don't.

umm i am not gonna bother reading all that but computers are cool...right on!

The original draft of The Lord of the Rings featured Chuck Norris instead of Frodo Baggins. It was only 5 pages long, as Chuck roundhouse-kicked Sauron's ass halfway through the first chapter.
