http://heroyouthambassadors.kintera.org/katieeganDear YouthNoise Members,
Earlier this year, I entered an essay contest through the United Nations Association of the United States, and a few weeks ago, I received life-changing news. I have been chosen to participate in the 2007 HERO Youth Ambassador trip to Namibia and South Africa. As an ambassador, I will be going to Africa for the month of July and working side-by-side with the local students and communities at the HERO schools- building classrooms, teaching English and installing water pumps.
Education is the key to a child’s future, but for orphans and vulnerable children in Africa, schools play a far greater role than academic learning. Schools become a place to not only receive and education, but also a place where children can receive a meal, drink clean water, and learn life building skills that will ultimately serve their own communities.
Part of my responsibility is to raise $5000 towards the trip. The funds will be used for covering the travel expenses as well as supporting the projects on the ground at the schools that I will be participating in directly.
I'm asking you to help me realize my goal of actively becoming a global citizen and helping to improve the lives of the children and families in the communities I will be working in this July. I have until June 1, 2007 to raise all my funds, so please consider contributing today. A donation, no matter how great or small, will be greatly appreciated. You can donate easily online by visiting

I would be happy to talk to anyone who has questions about what I'll be doing while in Africa. Please contact me by email at katieUSA11@hotmail.com with any questions. You can also see what last year's Youth Ambassadors accomplished and learn more about the HERO program at

Thank you so much for your support.
Best wishes,
Katie
