Hi,

I'm from the campaign to get Major Richard D. Winters (immortalized in "Band of Brothers") his deserved Medal of Honor. The recommendation has been sitting on the Secretary of the Army's desk, yet he refuses to sign it. Major Winter was given command of his company, Easy Company, during the early hours of D-Day, when his company commander's plane crashed, killing all on board. He then led his men through Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, Operation Market Garden, and was the first American to enter Hitler's Berchestgaden. He led his men until the Japanese surrendered. If you have seen the Tom Hanks and Steven Spielbeg minseries "Band of Brothers," he is the lead character in it. He is a true American hero, and we need help from all of you! If you would more information on Major Winters, or sign the petition to help him get the Medal of Honor, please go to http://www.petitiononline.com/Winters/petition.html

Also, if you would like to help in the campaign to get Major Winters his Medal of Honor, please e-mail me at RachelKate@comcast.net

Thank you for taking the time to read this...

Oh no, I see where you're confused..

Major Winter's recommendation for the Medal of Honor is sitting on the Secretary of the Army's desk. It is up to the Secretary of the Army to sign it, then it passes to the President for approval. The Secretary of the Army refuses to sign Major Winters' recommendation for some unknown reason. It has been sitting on his desk for months now, and he still won't sign it. That's why we're organizing mailing campaigns, petitions, etc., asking him to sign it because Major Winters is running out of time..

Sorry if I didn't make that clear! Smile

I don't believe that Major Winters does not want the Medal of Honor..

In fact, he was originally recommended for it during World War II. However, before the war, it was decided how many Medal of Honors would awarded per division. The 101st Airborne Division, which Major Winters was a part of, was only given one. It did not go to Major Winters...

Rachel, leave the man be if he doesn't want it. It's his personal choice and it's not right to force him to take something he doesnt want!
