If society killed GOD it's because we helped them do it.

I love cake. And I agree that society has killed God. That does seem to be the direction the quote takes.
It must be lovely to wake up in the morning and understand everything.

This quote is so often taken out of context. Nietzsche said quote: God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we, murderers of all murderers, console ourselves? That which was the holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet possessed has bled to death under our knives. Who will wipe this blood off us? With what water could we purify ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we need to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we not ourselves become gods simply to be worthy of it? It wasn't some "Hooray God is dead!" It seems more lamenting, and I agree with Celtic as she says quote: Originally posted by CelticNewAger: I think it means society has killed the idea of God.

That's why I am apatheist.
Never have I EVER stated I am infallible, and I am sorry if it came off that way. I could be wrong. I have no poof. Nobody has any proof, but I believe that there is no god. I am sorry if I appear arrogant. I don't want to impose my beliefs on anyone. How ever I can say what I belive, especially in a forum that asks my opinion.

Both. Sorry I have been having a bit of an irratated spell but I won't do into that here. I have no proof You have no proof its rather a pointless argument.

It's interesting to note that Nietzsche went crazy before he died. This really has no bearing on the argument at hand; I just felt like sharing the one bit of knowledge my brain absorbed today. quote: And if ANYONE tells me that that is BS because there is no scientific backing, then they are idiots and friken hypocrites.
How am I a hypocrite for telling you that you have no proof? Because I have no proof that you have no proof? Or that I have no proof God exists? That's why I'm more agnostic. You can neither prove nor disprove the existence of God. Anything other requires faith. And yes, it does require faith to believe that there is no God. All things said and done, though, I think I'm more of an apatheist. I just don't care if there's a God or not. As for the Nietzsche quote (to finally get back on topic), I think he meant that there was no need for the divine. Science was advancing by leaps and bounds and proving that things once thought to be miraculous were really just normal occurances that could sometimes be replicated by science. I can't say for sure. I'm no expert on philosophy.

"God is dead...and no one cares...if there is a Hell, I'll see you there." It's a Nine Inch Nails song. I think it means society has killed the idea of God.

I like his name. Nietzsche. Nietzsche. It fun. I learned about him in AP Euro. He pretty cool. But back to the subject. God can't be dead because God never existed. And if ANYONE tells me that that is BS because there is no scientific backing, then they are idiots and friken hypocrites.

No, star, the quote is 'God is Dead'. And I must say that I am not with Nietzsche, I find some of his philosophies slightly hard to understand. I think it is an important statement to consider, and all the implications are too massive to consider. I find this question much harder to think my way through than some of the others, say, his ideas of the superman.

Not to bust your chops Ice, but where's the "famous qoute"? I'm sure you didn't mean for that to happen. I just thought I'd let you know.
