I think religion is a very subjective thing. It can be so many different things, have so many purposes. What do you think makes something a religion (not necessarily established)? Why do you think religion exists? I'm just curious to hear your thoughts and I don't want to spark any arguments. If anything keep it to a reasonable debate, okay?

Religion is a thing that people call their beliefs and rituals. For a long time man has wondered where he came from, and so he thought that the universe, being so complex, must have been created by some superior being. Religion is the name for those thoughts.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, A light from the shadows shall spring, Renewed will be blade that was broken, The crownless again shall be King

A religion is a set of beliefs. Of course, that's a pretty broad definition, so most people associate religion with spirituality or some sort of divinity (be it God, Nature, whatever). As for me, I think along the lines of the first one, but you won't catch me saying I'm part of any religion. As for why religion exists, I believe it's to give people greater purpose. Not everyone needs religion to that extent, though. Some people just work towards money, some towards enlightenment, and the religious towards everlasting salvation, or something of the sort.
The more you know, the less you don't know.
