In early Greek religions (and many others I'm sure) the omnipotent being (or 'god') was thought to be feminine or female. They thought this because they saw that females on earth could produce children. It wasn't until hundreds (or thousands) of years later until they discovered the male's part in reproduction, to which more and more males were worshipped as gods because they had the part in reproduction and they were physically stronger. Some religions even today believe that 'God' is a female. What are your thoughts?

Yeah, I liked Saved. It was funny. Except I watched it with my boyfriend who doesn't seem to get satire very well...so I should've watched it with like my best friend or my mom or something.

Ahh, see, that question, depending on who answers, is going to get a bunch of different viewpoints. I personally believe that there is no "God" that's seperate from the universe, watching over us (unless she's an alien! then I'm all for it!), but that it's everything. The earth, the people, all deities in their own right. I call myself a goddess-worshipper because I choose to believe the spirit of the earth is a female spirit.

Yes, thanks worth, that is what my intent was. Although I am male, I don't think it is right to only think that males can be deities, as so many do... So, that was my intent on this board...

Gotcha. I think Nick's point in this thread was to say that it is frustrating and kinda...well...dumb to try to give something like God a gender.

Yes, I was expressing my frustration more at people who insist on assigning a gender to everything, from toys to deities.

Which is why we come up with such wonderful answers as "Both" or "Neither."

I think that such a question is ridiculously anthropocentric and shows how difficult it is for humans to think outside of the box, or even their own bodies.

Hey Kent Smile

I'm glad to see more Nebraskans (and more Norfolkians Smile ) on the site! Although I disagree with you, I respect your opinion... Have a great day buddy!

Hey Nick Smile

My beliefs come mainly from these two truths:

God created man in His image.
God created male and female to compliment each other.
(Genesis 1:27)

from these two observations, I find the most logical conclusion is that God bears the characteristics of both male and female, and bears the title 'He' as a default since man is the head of the marriage union. (Genesis 3:16)

I know...it's just what you believe and I can't help if it's different. It just makes me....well, I don't want to offend you either. I vote that we just debate about stuff not related to Protestant Christianity views vs. Mormon views.

You know, cuz you're really cool, even if we don't believe the same stuff.

I'm Roman Catholic, and even though we refer to God as "He", we are really taught that "He" is not male nor female. An example of the teachings with this: my friend's RC High School refers to God as "She" because it is an all girl's high school

Why does it matter if God is a male of a female?

Just because nobody understands you, that doesn't mean you're artistic.
