I am giving up gum and sweets. In school, one of my teachers makes this chart and everyone puts down what they are giving up. He holds us to and it and keeps track of when we have that something that we were supposed to have given up. I think it's cool that he is doing it.
I have not yet reached my goal, and I am not perfect. But Christ has taken hold of me. So I keep on running and struggling to take hold of the prize. My friends, I don't feel that I have already arrived. But I forget what is behind, and I struggle for wha

I know someone who gets Absinthe smuggled in from France on a regular basis. Also they drink Absinthe in Eurotrip, funny movie, but it's a stupid scene. -----"""If any of this is wrong, I'm sorry. Good luck on that Dave. I tried that for a few weeks, I went crazy within 3 days without a smoke.

Um, I hate to tell you, but you can't really give up sadness. You feel how you feel about different situations and you can't really change that.

Thanks for describing Lent. I have never observed it, though it sounds cool. I might try it some year. I think it is really cool you all are doing it.

quote: Lent is the period of time between Ash Wednesday and....Palm Sunday, I think. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's Palm Sunday (cuz that would be 40 days---I counted). People who observe Lent, give up something for that 40 days & 40 nights (if you've seen the movie, he gives up sex). I don't know the Christian history behind it exactly except it's supposed to represent the suffering and sacrifices that Jesus had to go through until his death and his rising from the tomb. That's why Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday was yesterday, so people who observe Lent can like eat as much chocolate as they want (like if chocolate was what they were giving up).
Okay. I'm pretty sure Lent goes from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday... Weekends don't always count. The 40 days were when Jesus fasted in the desert and decided whether to be betrayed or to flee. Palm Sunday is the start of the Holy Week which is when Jesus entered the City again. And Maundy Thursday is the last supper/night he was betrayed, Good Friday is the day he was Crucified, and Easter, when Lent ends, is the day he rose from the dead. If any of this is wrong, I'm sorry. I haven't been to church in a year and a half.

I do observe Lent, being a Christian and all, but I don't think I will give up anything. The only vice I may have is spending too much time on the computer, but I will not give up the computer for 40 days. It's bad enough if I can't get on for a weekend. I simply have too many things I need access to on the computer. Yes, I do have other things I could possibly give up, but I don't particularly want to. Maybe I'll give up cursing people out when they cut me off in the school parking lot...
