peruchica: Lent is the period of time between Ash Wednesday and....Palm Sunday, I think. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's Palm Sunday (cuz that would be 40 days---I counted). People who observe Lent, give up something for that 40 days & 40 nights (if you've seen the movie, he gives up sex). I don't know the Christian history behind it exactly except it's supposed to represent the suffering and sacrifices that Jesus had to go through until his death and his rising from the tomb. That's why Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday was yesterday, so people who observe Lent can like eat as much chocolate as they want (like if chocolate was what they were giving up).

It's a good idea and I thought about observing it this year even though my actual church doesn't even mention it that much (I go to a United Church of Christ church). But I couldn't think of anything to give up...so now that I think about it, chocolate! I had a brownie today because it wasn't on my mind but no more chocolate until Palm Sunday. I think that's something reasonable I can attain...like solid foods would be too hard for me but something like swearing would be too easy since I don't do it that often anyway.

To answer your question FML, chocolate. What are you giving up, by the way?
