Depends how you define religion. I've searched over and over again trying to find out something that could help me. Most people have given me answers like, "you have to be Christian, or you're going to hell!" Well, frankly, yes that's true. But it also does depend on the type of Christianity you practice. I've read over the Bible many times. There's many things that point out that totally disapprove of our lifestyles today. For example - Easter. The name actually originated from Baal the sun god that the Isrealites worshiped instead of God. Their sacrifice to him was called "Ishtar" actually pronounced, easter. They would roast pigs and sacrifice rabbits, and have an egg feast. [I'm not saying if you celebrate easter like this, you're going to hell.] Now, I kind of strayed off topic, but whatever. The point is, religion is important today, it's important for everyone, not just the pope, or some religous pastor out in Oklahoma. But you can't just call yourself a christian and expect the benifits.

funny thing for pacifist more people have died in the name of Christ than any other man in history
"The very existence of flamethrowers proves that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves, "You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done"."

Yes, debating, not reinforcing in one sentence what someone else has said.

i started reading this thread so now i have to reply to it. the basic premise for what all religions are supposed to do to help mankind is good, but very misguided. the people who start religions mean well, but they forget that people are crazy. people take their beliefs soooooooo far, that in both the past & the present they have all been willing to fight for their beliefs. in fact, the only 2 religious groups i know of who have not been involved with religious fights are Hinduism & Budhism. also, in both the past & present, religious people have been closed minded, not willing to see that any other truths may exist beyond their religion. they debunk science & ridicule other religions. are religions fairy tales? who knows, because as of late, there is still no proof to say wrether or not the spiritual realm exists. all i know is, things cant stay the way they are. religions either need to become peacable or they need to be removed. thats that, plain & simple.

Religion is an opiate of the people. That is enough contribution to be effective.

i think that its a mix of that we need to believe in something and that we want to feel like that when we die its not over...i think we want to be secure to an extent. and by the way Jenos...."try contributing or get out" i remember you ranting abou tsomething like that in a post huh hypocritical.
