... we will all live forever. YOU need "Jesus As Your Personal Savior" to live forever with God in heaven..Please do not be deceived.. Hell is real.. and so is forever. Where are you going when this life is over? To choose God is as simple as... Lord I am sorry for what i have done.. please come into my heart and make yourself real to me. Just ask Him.. If you are real then show me.. He will come and show you... But you have to ask Him to come. I pray that you do... in Jesus name. A very wise person once wrote this. I think it's time it was shared more widely. I love this quote and I truly believe it. Share what you think, I'd really like to know. Don't hate life! If the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off!

When I was younger ( I don't know how old), I watched something about this on 20/20. Yea, I was watching 20/20 as a child. Any ways, it was pretty cool knowing that. I think Jesus was married and had a child. However, the people who wrote the Bible and followed him didn't like it because you know, females are not suppose to do that, therefore they tried killing her. Yea, exactly that's what God wants for you to kill someone. Then she ran away, raised her child and they just made her as a prositute in the Bible. I think the Bible has some truth but it was written by a group of men, I don't think it's exactly true. However, some of the stories make sense to me. I guess they put what they wanted and they took out what they didn't want.

Apology, I believe that is the idea of the DaVinci Code. There's a thread on it here if you want to go to that.

I just realized something, the Internet is not the best place to talk about anything that involves religion. No, take that back, anything that involves God and the Bible is not good to talk about on the Internet. See this is how I heard the story: I don't think Mary was a prostitute and was saved by Jesus but then again I can’t really remember the story. However, what I was told was that Mary and Jesus got married and had a child together, a little girl. However, people like Jesus’ followers didn’t like the idea of Jesus having a wife and kid. The also felt jealous of Mary because Jesus told her many things, like important life changing things. That why, some people say that woman are really powerful, more than we think. However, in those days, men didn’t see women as powerful so they didn’t like Mary at all. So they tried to kill her after Jesus died but Jesus told her to run away and hide. She did and lived to raise her child. I don’t know what happened to her child r anything like that. I just know that in the picture of the last supper, she was sitting at the right of Jesus, but people said that was Mark or something, I forgot. They said he looks like a girl so that’s why people made the mistake. They didn’t put her in the bible as that, I think that they lied and made up the story that she was a prostitute. I believe Jesus was married, had a kid, and his followers did that.

Thank you, Hubbabaloo. And yes, I am arguing as if I am a Christian. Of course, y'all know I'm not a die-hard worshipper of anything. So he only died for the select few that worshipped him? I don't deny that he was a wonderful, brave, heroic person, but I don't understand this mentality. If Jesus is as great as the Bible describes him, why would he die for only those that worshipped him and followed his rules exactly? Surely Jesus is not as vengeful as that.

Greenleaf asked me to bring up my beliefs. Anyone who's been anywhere I am on this forum, knows that I'm probably more forceful with Christian beliefs than is Christian. However, Christ didn't die for the sins of ALL, so that only a handful could live forever. That's not how it works.

I'll have to remember Gilgamesh next time I show how unimaginative Christianity is.

quote: Sure does. It comes from Ancient Babylonia, written in Ancient Sumerian, in the middle of the 2000's BCE. Something like 2700-2500. It's author, Shin-eqi-unninni, is the first known author in the world. =D
quote: Yup. Nice comparison. Had the Ancient Babylonians been monotheistic, there's a good chance Gilgamesh would've been the original Jesus Christ.
Indeed. quote: Except for the fact that he rapes all the women of Uruk.
That's true, but then the gods create Enkidu to balance out Gilgamesh's "un-holy" ways... and then he turns out to be philantrophic. quote: The Text of his rape of Uruk, his own city, is in the first text, where he "left no virgin to her lover" and his people became so irate that they begged the god Anu to save them from his oppressive rule.
He left 'no virgin to her lover' because as king it was his right to sleep with the bride the first night after marriage. The problem was that Gilgamesh abused this power and just popped in whenever he felt like it, and the citizens couldn't exactly say no to the king... but the point is that he changed -- just like you said, with the creation of Enkidu. On a side note, my book tells a different story. Gil Enkidu killed Humbaba, and then Ishtar tried to appeal to Gil and he refused and she sent the Bull of Heaven upon Uruk, and Gil and Enkidu killed and the thing that enraged Ishtar was Enkidu throwing a thigh of the bull at her, and then Enkidu fell ill and died... (short summary)... quote: in our fervor for ancient history, we seem to have REALLY diverted the topic of this thread. We're such geeks.
Ya, I think that was my fault... sorry, I started the mythology thing and brought that into this... it's fun though!

They were not oppressed, they feared his brute strength. They still considered him "wise to perfection." And that lasted online a tablet, until he gets restless and goes off to fight that big dude. Humbaba, I believe. Regardless, Gilgamesh was revered. Also consider the extreme difference in social attitudes from Ancient Babylonia to the fall of Ancient Rome. Much social progress was made within that time. A lot of enlightenment. Gilgamesh is considered more of a monster now, by ours and transcribers standards, than by his own people.

This is the eleventh tablet out of twelve. The Text of his rape of Uruk, his own city, is in the first text, where he "left no virgin to her lover" and his people became so irate that they begged the god Anu to save them from his oppressive rule. He makes Ediku, the Wild Half-Man, who he fights and later befriends. The duo would later kill the monster of Marduk in Syria, enraging the god, who kills Ediku. Ishtar later tries to seduce Gilgamesh, but he runs away, and searches for a way to immortality. This is where we find him in Tablet 11.

Nowhere in that text does it say Gilgamesh raped all the women, unless I missed it. That's Gilgamesh performing the tasks he needs to grant himself immortality. I agree Gilgamesh was no Jesus; Gilgamesh was very self-involved. But he was a hero, and practically the first great mortal-god creation, just like Jesus. I still believe that if the Ancient Babylonians had a monotheistic religion, they would've considered Gilgamesh their messiah.

Except for the fact that he rapes all the women of Uruk. Tablet Eleven of THE EPIC OF GILGAMESHhere it is, plain as day, the first biblical story to be written, or sliced into a clay tablet, in all of its English translated glory.

Lost to time, I presume. And probably a good thing it was. There could possibly be quite a few holes in people's faith if those books revealed something anti-Christian. quote: Also, have you studied mythology at all? That's just first in the long line of stories that resemble and pre-date Biblical stories. quote: and yet, you would most likely call it blasphemy, but it pre-dates the bible/christianity...

Has anyone noticed jesusfreak's pattern of posting on the board? They posted a couple times from November 13-14, than a couple times in February. In other words, the user just comes on to spread havoc without actually discussing anything. I don't have a problem with jesusfreak promoting Christianity on this board (I'm Christian, too) but please learn to write a coherent sentence!
