So. Richard Dawkins, the atheist's atheist. What do you guys think about him? Is he nuts? Is he brilliant? I'm interested to see what the opinion on YN is of man who calls religion a disease.

I love him...he's one of the few writers who can make me cry. The other one, of course, is Sagan.

He is brilliant. One of the smartest men alive. Unfortunately he is criticized for being errogant when christians are extremely errogant and self loving.

Oh, sorry. Here's his home page, which provides a little more info, especially about what the man is up to. Figured another link might be good anyways.

AAHHH! I hate not being able to see wikipedia! However, I find his ideas interesting. We've studied them for a while in my Philosophy of religion lessons, I've read a couple of his books, watched a few of his programs and I come to the conclusion that he is just as bad as extreme Chrisitians. In 'The Roots of Evil [Religion]' he just attacks the beliefs of different people as he travels round the globe and gets increasingly angry throughout the program. Not a good spokesman for the 'we're rationalist, calm atheists' groups. However, what his books do allow us to do is to re-examine faith in a new light and see God(s) in a new light. This is a very necessary thing.
