Have any of you EVER stereoptyped a person by their choice of faith or lack there of? If you have, say what religion, the stereotype, and why. I think it's important we understand that stereotypes are wrong just as much as they are right. If you have been stereotyped, justify yourself. If you see someone has stereotyped your faith, explain it to them and why they would be wrong/right.

One of my best friends always used to get teased for being Hindu. She looks very Indian, and has very long black hair because she has never cut it before, which seems to make her more of a target. There is also another friend of mine whose father is an Athiest, and mother is Buddhist. He is still experimenting with different religions, and does not yet have a set one. Just imagine how many ignornat, ill-natured questions and wierd looks he gets. Not to mention he is immediately judged and usually becomes a joke magnet on the spot. It's quite sad and a poor choice on the part of those rude people.

I would like to disagree with bluedemocrat, I AM a Christain, however, I AM NOT a bush-loving, homophobic, or closeminded! I can't be, because my father is homosexual. I spend quite a lot of time with my dad, but I don't push him for being gay, and I dont tell him hes going to hell either, and he is very cool about my Christianity, even going to chuch with me every once in a while.
However, in my neck of the woods, there is a general stereotype, and that is that all Catholics drink and party ALOT, not all Catholics do this I know, but in this area, if you are going to throw a party, you need catholics...

I'm sure that everyone has some sort of stereotype for all religions. People are just ignorant and usually don't have the facts. I mean, not all Borne Again Christians are freak-o "You're going to hell because you're not Borne Again", and not all Atheists are "Life has no meaning, lets get wasted." The world needs to be more accepting. It's too bad that people are too morally corrupt to do that.

I'd say I do steretype Christians as Bush-loving, homophopic, closeminded individuals. I know this is a terrible stereotype, but I continue to do it.

I wouldn't quite say that i get sterotyped, but I do constantly get told I'm going to hell for being a non theistic infidel and such. People at my school are pretty slow so it's really hard for me to get through to them. I try to explain that I have nothing against people who believe in God(TM) and that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, but I usually just get told once again that I will burn in the deepest pits of hell.

I've been stereotyped before. I'm a Muslim and I used to be heavily teased when I was in sixth grade. Boys would call me 'afghan' or 'afghan boy'. I was crushed. People still stereotype Iraqi's as terrorists, and it's so sad if you ask me.

I don't stereotype religons... well, I don't stereotype most major religons.
I will tell you that the second I hear "Wiccan, Witch, Sorcerer, Mystic, Palm Reader" or the like, I automatically think "Angsty Teenager".
Or "Idiot", but thats a different topic for a different time.

I try not to stereotype. It can lead to horrible things. For instance, people think these things: Christians: KKK Jews: killed Jesus Muslims: terrorists Hindus: pagans Buddhists: self-worshippers And the list goes on. They are all, of course, not quite true. If someone stereotyped my religion--Christianity in this case--I'd just prove to them how wrong their thinking is. And then ridicule them for thinking it.

I'll admit it: I've stereotyped religions. Usually Chrstianity, because it is the one that bugs me the most. My problem is that I assume that most Christians are homosexual-hating, Bush-loving, pro-life, pro-religion-in-schools and anti-liberal people. Which is not entirely true, I'm sure that there are some Christians who are not like that. I, too, have been stereotyped. As an Atheist, people tend to believe that I have no morals, that I'm the girl who kicks beggers and dogs in the streets and that I only live to please myself. That is false. Not all Atheists are like that. I'm sure some are, but some Christians, Agnostics, Jewish, Muslim, etc people are like that too. I, and most Atheists I know, enjoy volunteering, donating money to charity and helping out a good cause. I love animals and I'd defend the kicked dog. I have morals; I have a definition of right and wrong. However, it feels like Atheism is very misunderstood. I'm sure most Christians feel the same way about their religion.
