Both groups have the rational ones, and the lunatic-fringe ones. You have hardcore christians who believe that God will heal all illness, and you have the hardcore new agers/pagan who think the power of the vortex (or insert your favorite buzzword here) will heal all ills. It's the same for both, mainly because both are irrational and based on faulty information.

vortex? youve insulted me. new age has nothing to do with a similar apocalyptic event that will heal all. new age is a perfsonal relligion, and you believe what you choose.

Celtic: I wasn't talking about that. Everything has it's differences. But they are very few in Shamanism. They do slightly different practices to get to the same place. In that realm, nothing else matters.

Allright! I suppose a little clarification is in order here. To let you know what Shamanism really is. I don't claim to know all, but I know pretty damn much. Shamanism is healing. Bottom line. The Wounded Healers strive to heal themselves, others, and the world, through the etheral or other planes. Yes, some do shapeshift, but it's not a physical manifestation, it's more of what people would refer to as lycanthropy, but in a controlled environment, such as ritual space. The Shaman tradition and practice has spanned years into our past, and is by no way an easy path to tread. Shamans go through fire, blood and death to get to where they are. Hard work and pain. There are Shamans from every culture. Native American, Celtic, Toltec, whatever.

A good book to check out would be By Oak Ash And Thorn by D.J. Conway. Hella lot of info in that one, and I'm not even done reading it. But it has a lot of history if you're into that. It has some rituals and such, but not much. It's more of an informational book about Shamanism. Read up you ignorant morons.

Calm down Celt, it's not tha big a deal. Breath deeply and exhale. I happen to know a Shawman thank you very much. They are more like pristes than anything else. They are usually Native Americans and they are the smartest, i should know.

there is nothing i despise more than someone quoting the bible on this site. geez, its just a book. anywho, i defend paganism is someone says something about it, the christians (MOST of them, notice that i said MOST and not all) here just use it as some sort of evidence tool, which it isnt.

I do that on here mostly because pagans actually try and defend thier religion, rather than quote the bible.

So with the christian, it's the same argument over and over. With pagans, it's different every time. Big Grin

Dj, if that was directed at me, you've forgotten that I'm a fellow Deist.

For the most part it wasn't directed at you. The statement was more less stating that I find most religions on the same level of irrationality. There was a little part that was directed at you because I notice that you tend to be a little harsher on the religions that are mysticism based; which leads me to think you give a little more credence to Christianity then other religions. Or I could just be completely misinterpreting.

Dr.Strange, people will always look to something bigger than we are. I think that's what makes mysticism seem cool. Other people look to a god or gods/goddesses, and others will look towards something along mystical lines.
