I'd love to believe part of me will live on after death, but I need more than a "that'd be really nice" mentality to get there.

I guess with me it is more of a "feeling" I "feel" like there is more to it than just death. I "feel" like there is more than just this life.

I actually have quite vivid dreams about the holocaust, the dreams are so sick and real. So if I had to guess where a past life of mine was I would say germany.
I have had so many dreams of being shot, I can feel the bullet enter me then my vision tunnels and I die but I am not dead, In the dream I am stading there over my dead body, a few dreams like that and there was no question to me if I had a soul or not.
What is so insane is that the "idea" of living again scares the hell out of me. Cause you could end up anywhere (in theroy) The next life may not be as good as this one, or depending on your life, maybe the next one will be better.

I can't blame you for that. I've witnessed a friend of mine take someone on a shamanic journey (no drugs included), and that certainly can be proof to someone, nevermind rare and obscure miracles (of which I have never been partial to).

I know it can't be proven over the Internet (nothing really can), but I doubt it could be proven in real life. If, as you say, souls aren't physical, what kind of proof can there be? If no one can prove to me God exists (another non-physical idea), then what chance do souls stand?

I don't really care that much about the presence of souls. If they exist, they exist. If they don't, oh well. The existence of souls has no impact on my daily life. But when people start asking about past lives...you know I've got to chime in.

I don't claim to believe anything about the afterlife. Since I can't understand what in the body could possibly survive death to move on to an afterlife, I suppose it's accurate to say that I believe nothing happens. But I simply don't know. I don't dwell on what's going to happen to me after I die. I prefer focusing on the here and now instead of worrying about what I can't change.

Yeah. Try the wiccan afterlife. Happy, eternal light, no pain. Even the name screams wish: Summerland. I gag every time I hear it. If murderers go there, count me out. I'd rather stay here.

Allowing yourself to break down the barrier between what you believe and what you'd like to believe doesn't seem like much of an answer to me.

Or, to put it differently: for plenty of people, your beliefs about an afterlife and what you'd like to believe about an afterlife are miles apart. I'd love to believe part of me will live on after death, but I need more than a "that'd be really nice" mentality to get there.

What else is it gonna do? Magically fly into space to some "other world" that we can't see, to go live with some invisible dude who sees everything that every person does every second of every day, and has power over everything and everyone, and can be everywhere at once?

I don't know about you, but that doesn't really make much sense to me.

Hey, I've already said something like that can't be proven over the internet. Look for someone in real life to do that.

quote:
You're expecting me to accept too much without any shred of proof, which seems par for course when it comes to anything remotely spiritual.

I'm expecting you to give it a chance. If you really want to know if they're real or not, seek the truth in real life. [refer to previous statement]

There's proof even a [blind] man like you would believe, but I can't give it to you. I don't have that kind of power (as previously stated) and I don't know you in real life. You are also asking too much of me.

CLPO, random question. What do you see when you look at yourself in the mirror, but only look at your eyes?

My eyes.

Clpo, what you don't understand, (or insist on being difficult with) is that anything spiritual, has nothing to do with the physical plane.

If I'm being difficult, it's because no one's explaining this well enough. You're telling me souls are spiritual, but you haven't even shown how they exist, much less proven how they are spiritual and have nothing to do with the physical world. You're expecting me to accept too much without any shred of proof, which seems par for course when it comes to anything remotely spiritual.

I've said it before: I'm not a man of faith, especially not blind faith. To me, saying that souls exist but we can't find them because they don't really exist here but some other place that we can't know anything about seems like a cop-out answer, indicating you don't really know anything about souls and are just guessing based on what you think you know. You've got to have some sort of proof to get me to accept something, and if, as you say, souls have no physical presence, then there's no way you'd get me to believe in souls. Hopefully this is well explained enough.

Ethereal:
1. Characterized by lightness and insubstantiality; intangible.
2. Highly refined; delicate.
3. Of the celestial spheres; heavenly. Not of this world; spiritual.
4. Chemistry Of or relating to ether.

Apply that word to the soul. Clpo, what you don't understand, (or insist on being difficult with) is that anything spiritual, has nothing to do with the physical plane. How can something etheral, of the spirit (it's very name implies it!) be weighed, measured or found?

Nice looking ChrissyLynn, however in the original version of the Bible, it is more an implication that Elias is a title, not that John was literally Elias.

If souls exists, where are they stored in the body? What are they composed of?

You can't prove something like that to someone over the internet. That's ridiculous, but you can prove it to someone in person. Not I personally. I wouldn't claim to have that kind of power, but some can. I think of Shamans mainly (I mention them a lot, but that's because I know the most about them).
