First of all- This country WAS founded on Christian principles.

Funny how there isn't a single mentioning of God, Christanity, the bible, Jesus in the greatest text in American histroy, the constitution.
quote:
Who was coming here to escape persecution? CHRISTIANS.

Man oh man, white washed American history, read up on history and then come back.
quote:
WE NEED GOD in our Pledge of Allegiance, we've seen what happens wihtout HIM. (i.e., September 11th)

Funny how more people claim to be Christian now and more people actively attend church now then any time in the past. This was the case even back during September 11th. So this point is moot.
quote:
In the 20's, 30's, pick a time and the US was a lot more unified, happy, and calm. PLEASE bring God back.

Roll Eyes You really need to be quite and read up on American history and politics. Anybody who calls the 20's and 30's unified really needs to get their head out of their ***.
I could write more but my atomic physics class is calling.

To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. -Teddy Roosevelt

OK
First of all- This country WAS founded on Christian principles. Who was coming here to escape persecution? CHRISTIANS. Now I'm not saying that everything done by Chritians is perfect. Alot of times, people who who claim to be Christians fulfill thier own worldly desires "in the name of God". Second- WE NEED GOD in our Pledge of Allegiance, we've seen what happens wihtout HIM. (i.e., September 11th)
Also, let's think back to BEFORE people started being not cool with having God. In the 20's, 30's, pick a time and the US was alot more unified, happy, and calm. PLEASE bring God back.

Funny, I always thought it was founded on freedom of religion by people escaping religious persecution.

This country weather people like to admit it or not was founded on God and religious beliefs so when people give this stuff bout seperation of Church and State I just laugh If u look at anyone whos ever tried to change sum thing like this such as the lady who took prayer n schools to court she now regrets it and wishes she never had also the lady who took abortion to b legalized to court she also regrets it... religous beliefs is all around us and will be forever thats just the way it is...everyone biasis and has their own opinion thats what makes america!

A hell of a lot better off. The thousandfold conflicts and oppresions would not have happened, from the burning of the Library of Alexandria (a christain blunder) to the crusades (yet another christian blunder,) to the holocost of more recent times. We need to get rid of that statement, a hold over from the old days when there was still religion in the public shcools. I refuse to say the pledge, and will do so until that statement is erased. Ikki is right about the "libery and justice for all" thing too. I will have to think about that, seeing the KKK roam freely.

I would be right where I am now, typing on YouthNOISE and drinking Mexican soda. I never had 'God' to begin with, and I'm not suffering now.

As far as "under God" goes in the pledge, thats the major reason for my refusal to recite it. I no longer stand for the pledge, I only continue working on whatever assignment we were given that class and ignore it completely. People call me un-American, and I just shrug and laugh it off. Being American does not mean saying the pledge even though you don't believe it. Being American is having the freedom not to say the pledge.

I also agree with Ikki's problem with "With liberty and justice to all." Right now, where are these two important elements in our lives? They seem to be nonexistant.

My newest beef with the pledge is the "indivisible" part of it which, clearly, has been breached as of late.

I'd just like to say I don't believe in the pledge because I disagree with a line in it. However, the line I disagree with is NOT the 'Under God' one. It is the 'With liberty and justice for all' line. I don't believe that there is liberty or justice for all, so until there is, I refuse to say the pledge.

Just a thought...

I remember a very, very long time ago BillyBario posted something, an article I believe, on the dollar bill. It said that "Under God" was meant to be generic, since they were big on freedom of religion.
I don't have a problem saying it, personally. It's not like the school is forcing you to believe in any God; but if you don't want to, just stand up respectfully and omit that phrase or the whole pledge.

I love Amerika(America). I really do. I just don't say the pledge because of the "under god(God)" phrase.
