My stepdad said that at a party they did it and they asked the spirit to do something and a flame went over a girl's head. 2 weeks later she died in a car accident at 16 years old. He said that someone has to have a strong mind to have something happen. He was scared out of his wits.

And I just want to say that the whole thing is demonic!

Why?

I'd insult, but since I don't believe the Ouija has any power anyways, I don't care.

Dude or chica, for someone who thinks they know so much about it, you can't even spell correctly! It's spelled Ouija! And I just want to say that the whole thing is demonic! You'll never catch me using one.

My friends and I used tarot cards and they really worked. But my friend in California's little sister got a Parker Brothers Ouija board and you have to put it under a light for twenty minutes to make it glow. And the cup didn't even move He wasted like, thirty dollars on a piece of ****

Used one once. Was silly and fun but we didn't contact the dead or anything like that. We asked stupid questions and everyone knew that it was totally bogus.

I've had more frightening experiences with the dead in an airport (oh yes, ask me sometime).

It's not harmful and all this talk about demons and the like is totally absolute crock. There are no such thing as demons. They are merely a myth perpetuated by the fact that Christianity has a distinct fear of owning up to any of their human falibities and blame them on "the Devil" or "demons" instead.
Don't worry and have fun.

ack!

Eugh. Never used one. I don't think they're bull****, just a waste of my time. If I wanted to contact the spirits, I could just do it. I don't need no moving curser to do it for me. Sheesh.

from www.straightdope.com...
"How does the Ouija board work? New-Agey folks think you get messages from spirits or ghosts or Invisible Pink Unicorns or something. Yeah, sure. Here's the real explanation, from the Skeptic's Dictionary (http://skepdic.com/ouija.html): "those using the board either consciously or unconsciously select what is read." If you want to prove it to yourself, follow the advice of that same site: "simply try it blindfolded for some time, having an innocent bystander take notes on what letters are selected. Usually, the result will be unintelligible nonsense."

What makes the pointer move? An effect similar to that which occurs in dowsing, known as the ideomotor effect. This is a fancy name for involuntary/unconscious movement, such as a dowser's hand flicking enough to move his stick when he passes over an area he knows has water. (In fact, Cecil has discussed this very subject.) The basic point is that your muscles can move without your consciously thinking, "move to the word YES." As the Skeptic''s Dictionary says, "suggestions can be made to the mind by others or by observations. Those suggestions can influence the mind and affect motor behavior. What is purely physiological, however, appears to some to be paranormal." In other words, if you believe this stuff and are trying to get the spirits to answer questions proving that they are all-knowing, and you ask a question that you already know the answer to (for example, "What's my father's name?"), odds are that your own hands will do the rest by spelling out your answer. That's where trying it blindfolded comes in (provided you haven't memorized the board, obviously). If it's spirits, they should be able to guide your hands no matter whether you can see or not. But if it's you doing it unconsciously, the blindfold will screw things up."

Don't own one so I can't try it to see if its true but it'd be nice if someone could test that theory... (it DOES say that you can't be too familiar with the board and know all the letters though)

dude, oujii boards aren't ways of communicating wth the dead. They're toys for junoir high girls to giggle play with at slumber parties. Doing anything with the dead is called necromancy I don't reccomend it. The dead don't know anything their dead they're stuck in limbo they're just as confused as you are and if they did know the supposed "answers" then they wouldn't be telling you infact they wouldn't be stuck anymore. When you do something like "playing" with ouiji board you opening doors. Your messing with something you don't understand and weren't meant to leave it be of suffer for it . no joke

That might not make any sense but right now I'm too tired to explain it to you or to care .......

"weegee" boards aren't like sacriligious (am I using that word correctly?). That stuff isn't against the Christian religion unless you believe in it. If you just do it for the fun of it like an 8-ball, its just that- fun.

And lmao, barkid. They aren't "ways to communicate with the dead." give me a break. My friend asked her ouiji board if she would marry Orlando Bloom and it said "yes". Then someone else asked it the same question again and it said yes to her too. It moves to whatever you want it to. You want it to say its moved by the devil? sure. Want it to say you're communicating with your great great great grandma? There ya go.

Sheesh.

Tonight on unsolved mysteries...

This is either real or may just be a story but eh, I'd like to share it: Some girls that went to a Mormon Church camp were in their cabin using a Ouiga board. They were talking to a spirit(I'm not sure how the conversation went) and sooner or later, one of the girls was lifted up and as she was in the air, all her life was sucked outta her.Yeah she died.
In truth, a girl really did die in cabin eight over night but was it the Ouiga board, or was it something else?
I have used a Ouiga board before and whether you people believe it or not, the triangle was moving by itself. Also at one of my birthday parties, me and my friends were using it. Before my friend's parents could even knock on the door, the "ghost" said goodbye to her. It was really creepy. Like other people have said, if you are going to use the Ouiga board, be very careful. It isn't something to play around with.

Bah, I'll believe it when I see it. I find that with something as hokey as this, ignorance is the best policy. What you don't know about or mess with won't hurt you. It is folly to mess around with things better left unmessed with.

Just to clear this up, the Ouija board was not created by parker brothers, in fact you can make your own and it works just the same! Its a very old form of contacting spirits, puirely marketed because of the popularity of the idea.
