"Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day; give him a religion, and he'll starve to death while praying for a fish."

"Gods are fragile things; they may be killed by a whiff of science or a dose of common sense."

"The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason."

"Heresy is a cradle; orthodoxy a coffin."

"If the book the Bible and my brain are both the work of the same Infinite God, whose fault is it that the book and my brain do not agree?"

"The fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one. The happiness of credulity is a cheap and dangerous quality."

"No man ever believes that the Bible means what it says: He is always convinced that it says what he means."

“I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.”

"Religion is a disease of the soul."

I don't understand what you mean by 'not a lot of substance'. A lot of those quotes hold valid points. Do they not have substance because you disagree with them? And why not use quotes? What's so wrong with quoting someone from the past who held respect and was noted for intelligence?

Says the man with a clichéd quote in his own signature. Got a bumper for that one, BS?

Is there something wrong with posting quotations that mean something to a person? Please, point me to the rules that say "personal opinions are not allowed."

All very cute, but not a lot of substance. Quotations are always a little cliche for me. Instead of using them to make and argument, why don't you just slap them on your bumper.

Also, some of them are not very tolerant which is SOOO important to eveyone.
