ok, parents and teachers alike put alot of pressure on kids about graduating and what not. But with school getting harder and harder every year, with all standards risen higher than the last class, and more stress to the students. At this point, it seems almost impossible for some kids to graduate. I'm only in 8th grade, but hard classes, hard teachers, and stress already make me want to quit. I hate school. I'm currently a straight A student, but still want to drop out of school. Whenever standerdized testing starts, i want to hurl. School is terrible and it makes me want to commit suicide. Today in life you can barely get anywhere without a college degree, nevermind not even having a high school degree, so if you don't want to be asking "do you want fries with that?" for the rest of your life, stay in school.

The problem is that young people seem to think that there is only one path to life. School and more school, job and new job, die. It does not to be like this, though you probably wont be very aware of your options until high school at least.

Hate liberal arts? Screw college and go to a trade, business or art school to get into the field of your dreams. Or get involved early on with your field doing internships and such (junior firefighters is a popular one in my school)

Love liberal arts? You're going to love college. Just get through all those silly basics in high school and you'll be in liberal arts heaven in no time.

Want to travel? No need to have rich parents who will pay for your trip to France. Almost all colleges offer study abroad programs in a variety of locations. The navy might work if you dont think you're college material. Hell, do what my English teacher did and just travel anyway. Sure she was stuck in France with only a dollar and the rations she packed but she's one of the most interesting people I know now.

Want to become a professional? You'll have to put up with and do your best in high school and the first few years of college. These are those silly general courses, I know, but once you're done with them you get to concentrate on what you truely love. You can also take a year off before college or before graduate school and do an internship or travel or anything important... you just have to make sure that you're doing something worth-while and not sitting on your ***; otherwise you will be denied admission.

Hate school altogether? Look into pursuing a GED, they are often harder to get but you can, essentially graduate earlier. AND/OR Join the military, they really do have something for everyone.

No matter what you have to be willing to do what it takes and you have to be fearless. Employers, colleges, everyone knows this, so giving up just tells them that you're a wuss.

Honey, dropping out isn't going to do you any good. While your friends are at school, you're going to sit at home all day doing nothing. And because you're in 8th grade, I'm assuming you're not 16, which means you can't work that much. So looks like to me, you'll be having the time of your life... by yourself. My school has the second highest dropout rate in the state, about 30 or so percent. I'm a junior, and I already know about 10 people who have dropped out. One sits at home a drinks all day, two are in juvi. the other moved to the South, and the list goes on and on. And those are the kids that I just know about. Without a high school diploma, you can't make much of a living, unless A)you're wealthy B)you win the lottery, but without the money management skills you lack because you dropped out, you won't know what to do with all of it, C)you exploit something, or D)you're one of the few lucky ones who occasionally make it based on their skills not taught in school. Stick with it. Dropping out makes you look weak, and if you can't deal with school, I don't know how the hell your going to deal with the rest of your life.

I don't know about you, but the rule where i am is you have to wait until the 10th grade to drop out. i'm only in 8th. so until i get there, i gonna complain.

If you hate it so much, then just drop out. But everyone here did warn you - you won't get anywhere without a high school diploma and you can't freeload off your parents forever.

I totally agree with you. See, when you are in elementary and middle school, everything eventually leads up to summer vacation. And in those 3 months, i don't know about the rest of you but i forget ALOT of stuff. So after you graduate high school, i'll be for sure to forget everything. all of that math crap is stupid too.

Whats the point of school? You go there for 8 hours everyday for years just to forget everything you've learned once you graduate. Then after you graduate you have to get a job. Then later on you die. I want to skip the school part to have some fun before I start to have to work. To bad my parents would kill me.

Middle school in the USA is such a joke. I learned nothing, except math, during those years.

If I dropped out, it would be because everything is too bloody easy. They give you a lot, but it is not very hard. It is just a big quantity.

Until you are a Junior, at a private high school, in all Honors classes, taking a course overload, with AP Bio as your elective, are in a math class a year ahead of the average, are in the NHS doing "volunteer" work, and doing karate 2 nights a week, do not complain to me (or anyone like me), because frankly I do not care. You do not have it tough yet.

If you think Middle school is hard, I would really hate to be you if you ever reach college.

As much as I hate school I do not recommend dropping out because without a diploma you have no future. It sounds harsh, but it's true.

"Want fries with that?"

I suggest you get used to saying that, because if you drop out of school you'll be saying it alot. I also suggest you enjoy middle-school while it lasts, because highschool is about ten times worse in terms of work-load. Unless you want a job mixing concrete, stay in school.

C'est la vie. Quit whining and deal with it.

Besides, the new SATs aren't supposed to be that hard. It eliminates the need to take the SAT II Writing. You think 8th grade is hard? Then you better steel yourself for upcoming shocks in high school.

Basically what she was trying to say, if you **** up now, high school is already gonna be ****ed up for you.

So if you did well on the easy **** they feed you in middle school, and **** up on the crap they give you in high school, you have a bumper.

you're in luck, I want to drop out...
Except of course because school is too easy and bores me to tears. Of course, I know that simply getting my GED will do nothing for me at this point and I could take advantage of scholarships and such staying in school will allow me to have, so I don't have much of a choice other than staying.

One quote I love about the subject of difficulty in schools is below.

"In 100 years we have gone from teaching Latin and Greek in high school to teaching Remedial English in college."
-- Joseph Sobran

It's also amazing how back then in our nation's history more people were enrolled in private schools, hmm..
