Our school keeps on blocking out all the interntet sites. It's not just porn sites either. News sites are being blocked as well. What's the point of having internet if everything is blocked?

i think it is dumb, our school just recently blocked google images.. which makes it even harder to do powerpoints or presentations,.. there is no reason for it..

I hate that, its so lame they don't give us any freedom at school. But because I went to a technical High school we always came up with ways around it and my school was keeping up with us while we found new ways to get to myspace...(facebook wasn't around then. )

It's the school's computer that they provide for you to supplement your education. If they want to monitor the sites you are accessing, or limit the sites you can access, that is their prerogative. If you want to browse the sites of your choice without the schools monitoring it...surf the web at home or at a public library. Am I the only one who thinks it's funny how people whine about not being able to access stuff on the internet at school...when having internet access at school is a fairly new phenomenon altogether? I'm 21, and I grew up in a rather well-off school district. As students, we didn't have internet access until late elementary school, widespread access didn't start until middle school. I feel like I was born at a pretty perfect time; I've basically had the benefits of most modern technology throughout my education, but I remember what life was like before it all. Now, we're getting into the ages that have always had internet at home and in school, cell phones, CDs/DVDs...and I think they definitely take it for granted. Well, that's it for my sage "old timer" ramblings...take it for what it's worth.

Youtube can have good info though. Sometimes teachers would show a video as a part of their lesson and then they couldn't. Schools can go a bit overboard sometimes.

School isn't the place for dicking around on the internet. Do that on your free time. If you want to do research. Books still exist.

lol, my high school banned youtube, as well as, google images, however, they were stupid and did not block advanced image search. I really see no problem with kids going on a computer and playing games during study hall. It's their choice of whether or not to study during this time. Plus most school computers, well at my school anyways, do not have sound so it's not like they'd be disturbing people who are working. My school just banned games and boards and youtube and pretty much all things that are fun on the internet.

meh skool board blocks tooo much stuff that students and teachers need and they dont even give the teachers a username and password so that they can get past the filtering wtf is wrong with that i mean obviously they trust some semi questionable people around hormone and sex driven teenagers but they dont trust the teachers with full use of the internet even tho if they use the user and pass to get past the filter the server admin will know exactly what there doing

It depends. Read your school's handbook because often times they do have the rights to do that as websites can be a mode for cyberbullying and an educational distraction. By reading your school's handbook, it will tell you what your school's/district's policies concerning internet usage are.

My school pretty much blocked everything except search engines. Myspace, facebook, youthnoise, they're all blocked. And now each student has to sign in on the computer when they get on so the board can see who we are and what sites we're going to. Is it just me or is that a little invasion of privacy-ish?
Why don't more people care?

Ok i've been getting emails everyday about you guys posting so I guess I should post. Download this, its called UltraSurf, its an app (100kb) that allows you to surf the web anonymously, aka getting past all firewalls! http://drum.co.nr/files/u.zipDownload it and put it on a thumb drive and run it at school and it should work. Works perfectly for me.
