well... there are many ways to bypass them. our school uses novel and blocks alot of different programs... some ways are using a ONLINE ANONYMOUS PROXY SERVER... use one such as www.jontylovell.net or https://httpbridge.kgbinternet.com/bridge/homealso you can always just change the IP ADDRESS if your school is using a LAN (local Area Network). simply got to internet explorer on the desktop, right click and select properties. click the tab that says "connections" and select LAN settings, there will be your IP ADDRESS and port number, replace them with on of these following IP ADDRESSES and PORT NUMBERS http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Network/1120/fp-anonim.htmlENJOY

At my old middle school, we had Bess, which blocked you from anything. It was so stupid when trying to do a school project, because you kept having to re-word things so it would access clean websites. But at my high school now, you can do pretty much anything. I'm in Yearbook, and people sit around all day, listening to bands (on the bands website) and updating their livejournals/myspace. You cant look up everything (I'm sure if you put "porn" in the search bar it wouldnt let you, I dont know, I've never tried..), but we have a lot of leway on our school computers.

My school keeps updating theirs, I used to be able to get on AIM and stuff. Now I can't, atleast i still can get on YN. I have never been able to check my email though. Unles I am on the laptops at my school, then almost nothing is blocked. i don't know what they are tryng to block since porn pop-ups are always coming on and crap like that.
Hope for the best and expect the worst............take whatever life throws at you...

My school has Websense as well, and it is extremely annoying! Google pictures is blocked, which is an extremely helpful tool when I'm trying to make posters for a report and such. I do know some people that would go on extremely inappropriate websites if Websense was not on there, but honestly, I think Websense blocks a little too much. One time, on Google, I searched the term the "owl and the *****cat" because I was looking for the poem. It wouldn't let me get the search results because of the term "*****". I've often typed something into the search bar that is school-related, such as a war for history class, and wasn't able to get onto almost any sites because they were all Websensed. Though, my friend did find a website that takes Websense off of the computer. There's always ways to get around it, it seems.

My school uses Websense, which creates many of the same problems listed by the original poster. It puts all websites in categories, and then blocks entire categories. One thing I find ceaselessly amusing is that I can access pretty much all news sites except Fox News's, which is filtered for being in the category "Entertainment." Yet, I can still look up basketball scores via Yahoo News. So all in all, my school's blocking system isn't so much annoying as it is hilarious. Nevertheless, Jenos, about that bypassing school's security measures thing...let's talk.
And then, as the books were told, Fina replied: "A can of worms, my dear friend? What has this to do with reason?"

I don't like the blocking system on my school's computers either. Example: Today, my creative writing class was in the lab. I got finished with my assignment and decided to surf the web. I couldn't get on dashboardconfessionl.com (it's a band!) or albinoblacksheep.com (it's for fun!). I was just trying to use up the rest of my time and I felt like I couldn't get anywhere. Once my parents put blocks on my computer when I was little and I couldn't even get to Nickelodeon's web-site. I think schools especially just need to find a more lenient and useful blocking system.

It's easier to find porn on our school internet, than it is to get on a regular, appropriate site.

The filters block anything that has a possibility of nudity, violence, and the like. For instance, a site talking about the history of the gun would be banned. Most free webhosting sites are banned because there is a remote chance someone may have put up porn on it. For some odd reason, Bravenet Web Hosting isn't. At my school, game sites aren't blocked at all. No news sites to my knowledge are. Xanga is, porn possibility, YN isn't. Sometimes the thing is completely random. It blocked GameSpot, but not Gamespy. Both are gaming sites. Both are essentially the same. Whatever. It's just easier to get a teacher to log you in to see the site instead of complaining.

are you talking to me? If so, some parts of the site may not be allowed in the tech policy. I am against it....

What news sites are blocked at your school besides the Arian News Klan of Alabama? I don't believe you for a second that your school is blocking credible and unbias new sites. Why do you insist on lying to us to get attention?

same at my school. they have basically blocked every game site and i guess they have good reasons for doing that (maybe in school students should be doing school work?) I hope they dont block YN b/c it has a login deal...if they do i will fight the admin. to keep it up.
