Punk began in 1976 and didn't last all that long. It was a fashion statement from the beginning. Did you know that the Sex Pistols was started to promote a punk clothing boutique? Doesn't stop me from liking them in their pre Sid and Johnny days, but still, it's funny. I don't see how Avril relates to punk in any way, so I don't really understand the "oMg aVriL iS leIk SucH A keWL PuNk reBEl" or the "Avril is ruining punk, I hate her and think that she should die because I'm a real punk and I'm so cool and hardcore."
why is it so imporant to categorize yourself, is'nt that a little restricting. people need to try to be themselevs. oh and punk isn't a fashion statement like the trendy f**ks try to make it out to be..it a attitude and a way of life. the real punk thing to do is to not fall in or catergorize yourself. punk is so over rated, true the music is cool but look what rancid is turning into listen to the old stuff and u will see what im talking about
I hate avril. a lot. Her music isn't even remotely punk. and I really should say this: be who you are and don't try to be anything else. It only leads to people hatin' you.
i wonder what the preps are thinking with Avril Levigne dressing punk yet every song she sings is prep and always ends up on z100-the prep station of today's pop music- or maybe they actually like her music.
music is expression, right? so is the way you dress. and the way you talk. its self expression.
my question is, why is Avril mixing it all up? sure, she may feel both worlds. sing prep, dress punk. but some things ya just don't mix. and if you do, at least don't make a dramatic line between the two. example. arm leggings, heavey black eyeliner, metal jewelry, thick wrist bands, punk clothes VS songs about lost loves, missing beaus, and other aspects of teeny bopper angst. "omg, hes cooler than i am! thats not supposed to happen!"
i grew up with the music played on 92.3 and MTV with those same artists. what happened to MTV? it used to be neutral to ALL music. now its just reality tv shows and pop music.

Avril should be true to one world. even if shes trying to reach both worlds to sell more, she should still be true to one world.
i totally agree, kidlets now should focus now on more important junk rather then, oh my goodness, this one person downst think im "punk"enough, oh my goodness, ill go hang myself... BLAH,m what BS!!! and you can't be PUNK, its a music genre, although, people here and there tend to "dress" or "act" like what they see the artists that sing or play punk music, go ahead try going up to some "avril lavigno" wannabe, and ask her who the sex pistols are!
