Okay so, I think that the people that are like SHUDDUP ABOUT AVRIL ALREADY have a point. But you're missing what all the true punks are saying.
They're saying that shes give kids, particularly girls, across the country if not world a false message about punk. She's making them believe that if they listen to her music and dress like her that they are punks. I think thats what most of the "true punks" out there believe. The kids out there that follow Avril and thusly believe that they are punks have no idea what punk is about, or what it was founded on or any of the history of punk or even what it really means to be a "punk".

I think its great that Avril is out there sharing her music. If thats what she wants to do, and shes good at it, then I'm all for her doing it. If it makes her happy, let her be happy. How does it directly effect you? Have you talked to her? Do you even know her?

But, honestly I don't believe in labels. Regardless of how you feel about labels tho, some1 is bound to give you one whether you know about it or not, or you like it or not. If you want to label her something, then I think you're the one thats a fake/poser. If it means so much to you to be a "punk" then you really aren't one at all. It's about whats inside, how you feel. Not what other people are doing or wearing.

Omg why won't you ALL shutup!! Get over yourselves and your whole stereotyping $hit. You are ALL acting like immature adolescents.

Let me fill you on about me. My name is April. I am a human being (not a label, or a number for that matter). I wear all kinds of clothes, and listen to all kinds of music that appeals to me. Period. Therefore I am your basic everyday neutral. I don't just ignore something (aka music, clothes) just because I might get misunderstood. Someone once called me a wanna-be. All I could possibly do was laugh in their face. I, being a neutral, have no boundaries. I can be a little punk/goth/prep/ect...but I'm still my own person. (Excuse me for using a label to describe myself, but I couldn't think of any other way to put it).

So you ALL need to GET OVER YOURSELVES, and take your "little petty crap" somewhere else that actually is about that stuff. This is a site for those who want to make a difference in the world, not for those who have nothing better to do than sit on their @sses and judge people they don't know.

**Oh yeah, just wanted to remind you all that media can screw up your perceptions of people so that it's hard to see who they really are underneath all of the reviews, interviews, ect. They are mostly in for those who are typical of the reputation. In other words they are afraid of those that can prove they are different. If you want to be a singer, there a big chance that your producers may want to fickle with your image in order to make profits...notice I said PRODUCER, not ARTIST.

You want to know how I know all this stuff?? COMMON SENSE without all the little stereotyping crap (ect) to go with it. Also I am a journalist.

From this point on I refuse to participate in off-topic boards of this sort, and I hope that those mature enough will do so as well. Thank you.

Oh, for the love of God...
Avril is a poser. That's all there is to it. She's not in ANY category of punk rock. However, neither are all of the true pop-"punkers" like Blink and Green Day, because they're all a bunch of sell-outs.
NOFX, Rancid, The Bouncing Souls, et cetera... THEY'RE punk. They do it for the love of the music, not the money.
But Avril Lavigne... Dear God, how DARE she sing about "punks" in her songs.
Oh yeah, and on another note, the way you dress doesn't make you punk. It's your attitude and the love of punk rock. You could be wearing friggin' Abercrombie and Fitch stuff and you could still be punk... Well, maybe not Abercrombie and Fitch, but you get what I mean, right?

And there's a difference between pop-punk, and real pop. Pop punk is like Avril, Blink 182, and Good Charolete... the overated things. Real punk... sweet sweet stuff. Might I all sugguest you check out www.iv4k.com (I Voted for Kodos) since they are a kick-*** (not punk but) ska band just starting out from Madison WI which I have been supporting and promoting for about a year. They're touring the US this summer, go catch 'em at a show.

And caerat3, don't be so ******* ignorant as to say all Canadians are stupid. Especially on a board like this... I don't think America's Promise would look too kindly at the youth if they knew that's our moral values. Look at it this way--Americans are the ones who celebrate their independance by getting together and blowing stuff up.

I haven't got much against Avril Lavigne...honestly, I do like some of her music. I think it's great that she's encouraging youth, especially girls, who are often still expected to be feminine and subtle, due to sexist barriers, to seek some independance.

She does ruin wearing a tie and collered shirt though.

I think punk is "cool" because it's the "anti-cool" kids think they're being different and rebellious; or at least a lot of them do... when really it's trendy to do so.

I dislike trendy.

Some people call me punk tho. Maybe I go to the punk shows, but my scene is the ska scene. Someone asked me "why to all the ska kids turn emo?" it's all about stereotypes. Dressing bold to express who you are. They're all symbols to recognize eachother with. Like the "X" on my fist, or the Chucks I'm wearing... if people know what they mean--instant conversation starter!

cheers

Not all Canadians are stupid and Avril is far from stupid.
You have a problem with her singing cuntry one day and acting punk the next.WHO CARES!?!?!?!?!?
Dude I rap, I sing Operah, and rock, and pop, and jazz, and pretty much ever other type of music i've ever heard of. No one gets on my case.
I'm everything and nothing. So leave Avril alone and let her be whatever she wants to be

I laugh to think anyone could've believed her when she went around gripin' about how she was rock n' punk, not pop, or whatever. She belongs down there with Blink.. I give her credit for catchy tunes, but that's what pop is usually all about. One catchy tune after the other, each one nearly identical to the one before.
And she pronounced David "Bowie" wrong. Blasphemy...

Red Face ok here it is she promises her next album wont be so pop. she wanted to rock out hard in the beginning but people were-are-under the impression that she was under the impression that she was more of a pop artist, or a folkier artist. like she says a girl singing "COMPLICATED" walking up the red carpet? thats not punk and she says she would never call herself punk. but she does hate the fact that shes so pop i got this info out of a mag that had a interveiw with her theres much more but thats too long. i hated her to at one point but i found the truth so i say give the girl a freakin chance and y do u care huh huh huh wanna piece of me do ya do ya do ya "no" thats what i thought Mad Big Grin

I wish people would understand what punk music is. Punk music is stuff like the Sex Pistols, Buzzcocks, Iggy Pop & The Stooges, The Clash, X, X-Ray Specks, and so on. Avril is just another power-pop star, who is taking advantage of people who are dumb enough to think bands like Blink-182 are punk. Trust me, if you listen to the Sex Pistols, you will now what real punk is and love it.

I don't see why that should make a diffrence in her music, so what she sang country? Heaven forbid! It just seems like a stupid reason to stop listening to the music you like.

P.S. Was she ever really punk?

I think this conversation is rediculous, ur fighting over avril lavigne. who gives a crap if shs not punk she never said she was, and if u go into a CD store shes not gonna be under punk, she'll be under pop or something. Gosh, give her a break, i just dont think u can acsept that fact that shes not Brittany Spears.

Stereotyping will always exist unless we do something about it.
So far, volunteers: None.

the whole punk vs prep controversy has gotten WAAAAAAAYYYYYY outta control. As soon as people like avrel or w/e her name is show up it lost all its meaning, NOISEmaker BruceLee was right when he said true punk music goes back to rancid and goldfinger! i agree!! in my opinion thats true punk music but still think about this: should it really matter what were classified as? most people say no but then think about this: if what you're labeled as doesn't matter then how come people get so offended if you call them a prep or anything else thats not quite what you wanna hear! i think you should be who you are and not care what other people think of you! if their opinion really matters they shouldn't be saying that kinda stuff to you anyways!

avril's a punk alright...a punk a.s.s b.itch that IS!

she's conformed to what she thinks society wants her to be. my second cousin knew her, and she was the type to come to school stoned and drunk out of her mind...she even wore the same clothes for weeks at a time.
sick.
she's acting all snotty to her real friends now because of her 15 minute fame...well, she won't last long. you'll see.
