We hear and use them all the time.Well, not all of us.

What's your label?(you know you have one)

I think if anyone were to label me they would probably call be a dork or a geek.
I don't really mind because I take it as a compliment.
They could also call me a loner or a punk so...

Anyway,
1.What is your label?
2.What do you think about labels?
3.Do you think labels are just a modern-day teen caste system?

My reply is that:

1. They label me ignorant, dumb, and a menace to society b/c I'm a young black male.
2. Personally I take offense to it, it only models a few of those in the black community, not all, and even then were still misunderstood.
3. They are a modern day caste-system that keeps us all divided.
4. When did labels become the basis of life in Americas-youth?

1. yea i'll call myself a prep, but i hang w/ everyone
2. labels suck monkey balls b/c they categorize people by his/her outside apperence and who they hang out w/
3. yea, absolutly
4. seriously don't label people by what they where or act like, no seriously don't really label them at all. just b/c someone wears different clothes and acts a little different doesn't mean they need a name 4 WHAT they are.

1. i have no label
2. they're sooo gay...i mean shouldn't u like a person for who they are rather than what they belong to? at least that's how I see it...
3. yeah i guess they are...coz the caste system was gay, cruel, and wrong...like today, so u know how can we advance to the future if we make the past's same mistakes?
4.i have made myself clear...

1. Nazi, Skinhead, Punk.
2. Labels in general I do not mind. Categorization is a sign of intelligence. Creating little groups of people based on shallow and irrelevant criteria and then trying to expand on it and apply it to actual social life is stupid, annoying, and divisionary.
3. No. Labels like the ones described in this thread (Goth, Prep) are almost never used to put other groups down; it is a way of creating a shallow identity for the people using them.

1) I'm an artist
2) Labels are okay. Me and my friends always pick on each other because of our labels. It's okay for friends, just don't make fun of other people. That's just not fair.
3) Nope. It's just a way some people putting down others, but it's been turned around to something bigger than that.
4) "I've associated you with something and now I shall pick on you for it!" Labels are built from the inside.

1. I am punk/rocker/prep
2. Labels don't always depend on your popularity level, or how you dress, but more of your attitude and what you come of as.
3. A job is a label. Saying you are a secretary of what-so-what is a label. If you have a striped fish, are you labeling it as "striped"?
4. I'm not the kind of preppy that most schools have, but at my school it is considered "preppy" by all the other schools in the area, because we are the biggest private school (1100 people) and because most of the people who go here are from the country club.
4. Some labels are wrong (i.e. sl**) and some are ok like when you say someone is a friendly person.

I do not have a label because I choose not to have one and people never label me. Why? because i change everyday. There can be days when i dress like a punk goth ( heavy eyeliner and all) Then the next day you could see me wearing a mini skirt and a blouse. I also don't get a label because i hang out with every1; from punk to prep, from the jocks to the brainiacs. I know every1

1. i'm goth
2. labels are stupid. humans have too many labels. i would be happy if a tree didnt have a name, perfectly happy. humans have need to catagorize things. its pathetic.
3. no. adults give labels too. a label is merely a group you fit into, and there's a lot of groups out there, arent there?

just so you know, that poem sucks, but its there, so read it.

I think the fact that you are catagorizing people (which ultimately leads to put-downs) makes you a fairly closed-minded member of the herd.
The Step-By-Step manual on how to be an individual:

BE YOURSELF. Wear what you want to wear and be who you want to b because it's what YOU want, not what anyone else wants or labels you as, or because of the media or because you want to be cool by dressing some certain way. BURN the labels!

Here's a thought: we can reduce the number of posts we have on this topic by recycling and reusing old ones that have already been made.

We're saving the earth!

My label would be "the quiet girl". I have my popular friends, I have my "original group" friends, and my druggie friends. So, that is basically all they could label me as.
I don't think people should be labeled. It is dumb, and can hurt people.
