Yes, I have a bias teacher, my Spanish teacher, we get participation grades, I participate a lot, she gave me a 60.8 I can't believe she did that! I get good marks and GAH! This kid that deosn't say a WORD got 90.0. My aunt knows her so she reports EVERYTHING to her, she was about to kick me out of the clas because I wasn't 'passing' a 75.0 is passing, I think I should at least get a B. She is so two faced... I won't get into that though.

Oh god, the bio teacher at my school is such a *****. I somehow managed an A second semester in bio after a d or c first. I thought I had her figured out and was getting along with her so i signed up for physiology with her the next year. She hated me! She failed me and my friend, despite the fact that we did our work, and quite well. A guy who didn't even do two of the major tests and my lab partner who always made me do all the work (i'm not touching that) passed with As. Grr... I hate her. She was so rude too and always tried to make this really shy girl feel uncomfortable. Anyone else ever had a crazy, biased teacher?

Bex, lol. Well, it isn't good enough, my sister came prancing home "OH!!!! Stephie! Look! I got all A's!!! tehehe! What did YOU get?! *looks at paper* oh... to bad..."

Just my luck I got screwed with having a straight A family. My cousins (who are down-right morons) got all A's and are Valedictorian and got accepted into Columbia... I'll shut up.

*sighs*
English: A
Math: F
Science: D (by one question! it was a trick question! I can't believe it!)
History: A
PE: A
Spanish: F

I even studied for that Spanish final all winter break. I studied that Science till 11:30 and Math, I don't study for math, it makes me more confused then I already am.

Damnit... I can't wait till my Dad gets home... he will blow up.

I made it! Three days of two-hour finals in all six classes and I'm still alive!!!

A lot depended on my final grades because they determine my grade for the semester which will be sent to colleges with my mid-year reports! Yikes! I think I got two B's and four A's; five A's if I'm lucky. (I HOPE!!!) But I'm pretty darn happy about my grade anyway. It could have been worse, and even if I get two B's, my weighted GPA will be a 4.0 (because I'm taking two AP classes).

But who cares!?! I'm now a second semester senior!!! YES!!!!!! I can't wait to graduate!!!

Also, I'm in this "school within a school" type program at my school. So on Friday, after finals, I went on an overnight retreat to a youth hostel with 45 other seniors and several teachers to the headlands by the ocean. We got to hike out to the ocean three times! Twice during the day and once at night. It was one of those cool bonding experiences you'll never forget and it almost makes me want to stay in high school forever because I have such cool friends!!!
Sad. I'll miss them so much.

Well, happy three-day weekend for those of you who have a semester break!

Later,

GCSEs were tough, but it depends on how hard you push yourself. I got all As and A*s (wahey) and I worked my asss off. You get totally sick of exams. There was a point near the end when I felt on the verge of killing something from the stress…… I'm sorry, am I meant to be reassuring you here?

Wink No, really, they're ok. I found the hardest part was the coursework, because it's so easy to fall behind. Get it out of the way, otherwise it's like this neverending nightmare that just won't die.

Exams are pretty simple in comparison. You just get all the books you need, don't leave the house for about a month, and revise. You get study leave beforehand, and the Easter holidays, and providing you use that time constructively the exams aren't too horrible. If you have trouble focusing, revising in groups is fun (well, more fun. It's all relative). I made flashcards (little question and answer cards) and got other people to test me. It sounds in-credibly geeky (Ok, it IS incredibly geeky) but starting a revision group with your friends is really helpful, providing you concentrate on testing each other rather than ar.sing around. For stuff like English and history, the most important thing is making sure you give yourself time to answer each question, eg. do practice papers.

Oh, and for French, you can get these CDs with practice listening questions on them. I think I would have failed my listening test without that, because my French teacher did f*ck all.

That's all the advice I can dredge up. Don't worry, if you revise well you'll do ok. The best part is when they end, but I guess you know that right? Big Grin

Sorry for confusing you, Jen. I may have overcomplicated. Three years of exams: GCSE's, then AS levels, then A levels, is what it comes down to. *grumbles*. Then university. *chants mantra* I like to learn, I like to learn, I like to learn… (sarcasm aside, I actually do. It helps).

I am so confused. I'm sure it seems perfectly normal to you, but I would never be able to keep up with all of that. Therefore I am going to be a true American and remain in complete ignorance of you culture, even though it is not that terribly different than ours! Whee.

Seriously, though, Bex, thanks for the explanation.

Love, Jen.

In England we have the years numbered. Reception is age 4/5 then it goes year one, year two, year three etc. Years 12 and 13 are sixth form. You choose if you want to stay on for sixth form and what subjects to study. We take GCSE exams at 16 (in ten or more subjects), AS levels in year 12 (aged 17), and A levels in year 13. Grades are entirely based on exams and coursework rather than teacher assessment, which I think has more influence in America?

I'm taking AS levels in English literature, art, history, biology and theatre studies, but most people just take four AS levels (I may be overly ambitious).

More than you ever wanted to know about the English school system. Betcha wished you never asked.

P.S. Greetings cheesegratingshed. Another Brit, wot-wot.

Yes, my school gives out E's. And I have spent to many hours of my life trying to figure out why my teacher didn't just fail me. I'm really dissapointed in my self for doing so bad, but it turns out I really got an A in English, not a C, so thats all that really mattered to me.

I always wondered why E was missing from the standard grading system...I wonder if the letters stand for anything. This is my interpretation :
A - awesome
B - basically good
C - can do
D - dunce
F - flunker

e...e for...?
