Think about it..mental abuse. In South Africa, at my school, kimberley boys high, most are out of control at this point in time.and most people would say' um thats tpical in todays society, nothing new.' But what if the educators played a major role in helping kids find their way to the bottom of the pit.... In my point of view, educators should be the ones you could look up to, the helpers, the strong willed, the TEACHERS. What happens at my school is a kid would misbehave, and instead of a educator giving him advise, in the appropiate manner, and telling him to stop, or if he doesnt want to, just send him out till he comes to his senses, or try finding out why he would behave in such a manner... the educator would start aguing with him( which is already a huge mistake, for the kid and educator's health and well being), falling into his trap of seeking attention and causing havoc. And this keeps on happening all the time, day in and day out. So I wold like to hear your guys' response to this issue. thanks. peace

Sorry, but I don't see much wrong with that. Actions (or the lack thereof) have consequences.

In the school i go to, our teachers try to be our "friends" so to speak, but most teachers have a short fuse when it comes to crazy misbehaving kids, it is almost the end of the school year so kids are being crazy. Teachers are giving out after school and lunch detentions with out blinking. I agree teacher are too harsh on students! I have first hand experience on this I know that my parents will be sooooooooo mad if i get a distension and I told one of my teachers this, I guess he went along and told the reast of my teachers that and almost every day a teacher threatens me with detention if i don't do my homework I cant even talk without the constant threat!

Teachers aren't the only ones who can do damage. Anyone from an abusive boss to the jerk on the bus can lower your self-esteem. However, I can understand that teachers have the potential to be more damaging than people later in life because people are more impressionable at a younger age. Even so, it's still up to individuals to determine how their life goes. Even if they encounter people who offer only criticism and abuse, that's no excuse for leading a poor life or acting out.

clpo13... I agree, teachers aren't in control of our lives. However, they can have a damaging impact on your self esteem if they belittle and berate you in front of a group of 20-something people! Self esteem lowered=harder time making friends and feeling comfortable with yourself. Again, they can do damage.

Yes, I agree. Thank you for also bringing into light how teachers really might be screwing us up! I've had teachers who played favorites, didn't give a crap, or just plain "existed". Thank you so much.

I agree. I understand that many teachers are only teaching because they need a job, but they should at least act like they are interested in what they are doing. It is true that some kids may just want to disrupt the class, but teachers should learn how to handle them so that the rest of the class can't be punished for something they didn't do.

Most kids are screwed up long before they set foot in a classroom. Educators do what they can to reverse the damage, but there's only so much they can do.
